NPG is over?

Do you think Prince disbanded the last incarnation of NPG ?

In the last year he devided his funk and rock persona.

But he embarked on a large scale tour\

with the 3rd Eye.

I hope Npg is over, hated Shelby and 20 horn players

I wouldn't bet on it, as pop orientated as the latest Hit N Run shows were, for a full on funk show you need the big band.

for a full funk you only need bass and drums, all other instruments are optional

Since Power Generations can't be new forever, Prince should have ended that band name back in 1997 when most of the NPG was gone. But Prince forever beats a dead horse sometimes. I would hope he ends both bands, and keeps the best of the best, and maybe Prince forbid, invites back some of the best from his past, and make one great band.

Hate is a strong word. Be careful it will consume you.
Don't think NPG is over, they will be with him at Essence. He's just stretching his wings right now. He's got a lot on his plate.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I'm going to guess that 3EG won't last that long and the NPG will be back sooner or later. Just a hunch.

Prince and the Counter-Revolution? lol lol

I wonder how the Revolution come-back will shape itself and how they will or won't try and tie the event to the PR remaster. prince obvioulsy won't take 'em back but nonetheless the timing is perfect 4 them 2 attract some media attention. What remains to b seen is whether it's about being a live nostalgia act or, as fDeluxe and The Original 7ven, recording new material.

Counter-Revolution, fDeluxe and The Original 7ven . . . so ridiculous that they had to resort to changing their names (collectively over a dozen artists) because of 1 man.

Technically he gave them the names in the first place, though.

I'm convinced that besides prince being a bitch towards his old pals/rivals, there's also a legal preocupation regarding the masters. I'm no lawyer but by agreeing to give up their old names in order to avoid legal pressure, the old bands/individuals tacitely admit that they do not own the names, i.e. their old counterparts weren't their own projects but prince's pet projects. Admitting this would certainly give prince's lawyers an angle in the case any of those people would start and reclaim a share of the old album's masters' ownership. Because we actually don't know what would happen if they would try and give it a shot since there are virtually no precedent of conflict of interest around masters revolving from a label to the original artists. Obviously and not without reason, prince considers all those albums by The Time, The Family and Prince And The Revolution to be his and his only. I'm quite sure that he'd claim the names Jill Jones, Sheila E. and Carmen Electra just as well if he could lol The fact that he tried to copyright even the names Mazarati and Good Questions a few years back shows that he's determined to keep his hold on the old Jaimie Starr/Paisley Park catalogue at all cost (even though I fail to c how he could claim anything from Mazarati save maybe the 3 songs he was involved with, let alone Good Question since he had nothing to do with this record in the first place). Honestly I don't think anyone will bother spending loads of money going into a legal battle with prince's top dog lawyers over the masters of a few old albums but I'm quite sure his lawyers told him to take every possible precaution to secure his estate. Business is business.

I don't care whether the bands stay or go, just get rid of the name, it means nothing anymore

Even to those who were in the NPG

Yup. It was a cool-sounding concept on Lovesexy, but the NPG song on GB killed it, for me.

Seeing how he owns the original band names, no it's not ridiculous. Prince could lease them if he wanted to-although that would devalue the brand he created.

Go out on the street right this minute and ask 10 random people the names of Prince's bands or the names of any band members.

Y'all stay under the impression that this stuff matters outside of the org...it doesn't lol

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I agree, the whole NPG concept got really stale and should have been abandoned a long time ago.

As a couple of other posts have said, it seems NPG will be at the Essence festival - in the interview with Elisa Fiorello over in the AA forum, she says she's going to be there with the other singers, which probably means the bigger NPG band too.

Ditto Shelby J posted on her FB page something like see you soon with the NPG at the Essence festival.

What makes you think he would get rid of the other half of his band just because he is currently touring with a few of his band members? lol I don't recall an announcement stating that trio is his only band members. Besides, why would he pigeon-hole himself to just playing rock/pop, when musically, he is so much more than that. Neither of the 3rdeye trio have the strong voice skills, to sing soul/blues/funk/r&b-flavored songs/duets with him, whereas Shelby, Liv and Elisa can. Truth be told, it seems like 3EG is more accepted overseas, than in the U.S.

Yeah it made sense when it was the Lovesexy era "New Power beat..." it made sense with them and that period, but after that it really never made sense to me.

.

He can really just be Prince no, or at least create a name that encompasses any configuration of bands/members

.

Like when Larry Graham and Chaka Khan were performing with him, they weren't really NPG they were Larry Graham & Chaka Khan

.

or in 2007 when Sheila E & Wendy were at those 3 shows, a term that would work without redefining anyone, if he wants a band name.

I wouldn't be surprised if some say the 'Revolution', just based on their reference to the Purple Rain movie.

He needs both bands. I doubt he'll disband either of them as 3EG is extremely popular in europe and NPG probably goes over much better with his urban audiences in the US.

Change it one more time..
