Prince's voice at recent shows

Can we all take a minute to appreciate how amazing his voice is at the minute eek After attending 4 of the UK shows I must say how utterly blown away I was with his vocals. I dare say, he literally has got better with age vocally. I was shocked to realise that he screams with a straight face - it's all technique and completely effortless. He was hitting above a D6 comfortably when I seen him. Crazy.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

yes i would like to second that. I enjoyed his voice more than his playing at leeds. Hes looking after himself very well, i know its his job but i was amazed how strong his voice was for this tour. Listening to the 3rd eye girl american shows , i thought his voice was starting to lose its power. Maybe it was that silly 2 shows a night they were doing was taking its towl on his voice at the time. But he seems to have sorted it.

Yeah, his vocals have been absolutely killer. I was worried he was losing it, but this tour (especially Part II) proves that if anything, it's the other way around! His voice is as strong as ever. It's powerful and he can hit any note. I was taken away by it.

I made the same comment both in Oakland and then in SF. Especially during the keyboard driven numbers. The Love We Make & When We're Dancing were both off the charts vocally at The Fillmore show #2.

His voice now is better than it has ever been.

There were three moments where this was plainly obvious to me of the three shows I saw this year:

1. Bambi at Shepherd's Bush Empire - 9/02/14

The way Prince & 3EG do this song is super heavy, but when the song hit it's crescendo, Prince's falsetto screams were just all-out, brilliant and powerful.

2. How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore at Birmingham (1st night) - 15/05/14

Hauntingly great. He started adlibbing variants on the lyrics towards the end of it using a huge chunk of his range from falsetto to quite low. His vocals were absolutely stellar and his timing and pitch were absolutely flawless. I was blown away.

3. Nothing Compares 2 U at Birmingham (2nd night) - 19/05/14
It was already the best performance I've ever heard of this song, and I must have heard at least 40 versions from bootlegs and shows I've seen. Then, he hit that verse "All the flowers that you planted in the back yard"...... and by the end of that verse, the sheer emotion, the feeling that he was pouring into it..... absolutely sublime. Just amazing.

Agree, best version I have ever heard of this song, it is incredible that he still has such a vocal range. Bambi was insane at both SBE and EB.

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Totally agree with the Birmingham 'Nothing Compares' he is the only, and I repeat the only artist that can have me in tears live. I know this song inside out but the way it was sung live loaded with emotional intent broke me. Then, onto the next song and he had me dancing again. He is a modern day composer who always has me awe struck. His range, attention to detail, musicianship is breathtaking. And to make it look effortless. A priviledge to see him at Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds.

Yes, yes, yes. Both his vocals and guitar work for live performances are in their prime.

Not tryin' to be a hater but I thought he was struggling during Kiss at the first night of Birmingham. He can still sing powerfully when singing deeper and can scream as high as he ever could but singing consistently that high for a song seemed to be a bit beyond him. Could have just been a once off, generally speaking he's still great.

Please don't label people divisively simply because they might not necessarily agree 100% with your opinion.

It is a form of baiting and will be dealt with in accordance with the rules if you persist.

There were huge sound problems. I was right at the front, and I could see that Prince wasn't getting a good mix on stage. There was too much boominess from the drums coming through on the stage monitors and it was muddying up the midrange, which is vital for Kiss.

At the second Brum show, Kiss was flawless, he sailed through it with ease.

I honestly did not feel that way at all. How Come You Don't Call Me, Do Me Baby, I Wanna Be Your Lover (played it at Manchester), Bambi are all similar songs in register that he absolutely nailed them. Sometimes it's hard to mix falsetto with a full band, espcially live, so that could have been the problem on that particular night.

He really impressed me. His voice was so good!

Very happy about that.

He also seemed very fit and energetic. He looked pretty happy and wasn't nasty or arrogant at all.

It seems as if he became less judgemental on his audiance. When he said he loves us, he seemed genuine. Or am I taking my postivity to far now?

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

You think? I have my doubts.

Probably, in that moment, when the band, him and we are all in that flow, he does love us. And vice versa.
