Super Bowl in Minneapolis in 2018 - Could Prince Do The Halftime Show Again?

Minneapolis was chosen today for 2018. It's 4 years out, but still something to think about.

That would be a bad idea, because he will bring 3rd Eye Girl (A band that sucks).

But I think if Janelle Monae does she will bring him on stage , she's highly recommended to play The Super Bowl Halftime Show in anytime in the next years; Actually, the previous performers share their opinion about who's worthy of the gig in their opinion (I read that in an NFL article), given that Prince, Bruno Mars and Beyoncé know how good is Janelle as a performer, she may get the gig.

Plus, if Prince headlines, what kind of a show he'd put on? He already had a great setlist for the 2007 Halftime show... Not sure if he could top it.

In 2018!? A million things could have happened between now and then and tbh I very much doubt that 3rd Eye Girl will still be in the Prince circle by then.

In terms of their suckage relative to others, the recent UK gigs would seem to indicate that your opinion is not a particularly widespread one, given that Prince and 3rd Eye Girl have been garnering unanimous five star reviews in pretty much every media establishment that has wrote about them.

But even so, the Revolution were around for about 2-3 years, what on earth makes you think 3rd Eye Girl will still be around in 4?

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

3rd Eye Girl are shitheads, they know nothing about entertaining a crowd, the whole formula of mixing instrumental solos with going crazy on stage doesn't seem fun. The shows are acclaimed because of the songs Prince performed, and because of Prince's talent.

I hope so, I hope P finds another band that deserves him as a front man.

The thing is, by then, Prince will be 60 years old, and one or even both of 2 things could happen by then:

1) He could have decided to retire by then

2) If he hasnt, his whole stage act could have changed from what he does now, due to his age and other factors

I think 2018 is to far off to speculate anything right now!!

They won't return to someone who's done it already, or especially not so soon (and yes 11 years is "soon" in the Super Bowl world). I think we're seeing most of the 80s acts like U2, Prince, Madonna, Springsteen, etc. get their shot before ushering in a new era.

I'd be very surprised if he's not part of the festivities in some way. Maybe not at halftime, but you can be sure they will reach out to him to perform somewhere, some time.

I agree with this. He'll probably do a charity concert before the Superbowl to raise money for local shelters or music programs. That sounds like something he would do in his hometown.

He'll be a few months closer to sixty and if we all live long enough to see it, I doubt he'll want to repeat himself with the same songs that will be thirty plus and feel dated.

If nothing else, i would expect a huge party at PP...he's known to throw a few shindigs. He did for the NBA All-star game that was played in Minneapolis a few years back.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

3rdEyeGirl really aren't on his level. When I think of Prince I think of him leading a ensemble of world class players (like the NPG he used for Musicology and 21 nights etc)

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

.

His first one is held in such high regard, I think it's better to leave well enough alone unless he knew for sure he could top '07, which I think is possible even if numbnuts up there thinks he'll be off the map completely and nobody will even know who he is. rolleyes

Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

I've been lucky enough to see prince and 3rdeyegirl at koko in feb and Birmingham and cafe de Paris last week, and have seen prince live some 25 other times since 1988, and i would say the current gigs are great, especially when in small venues. It is nice too prince being reinvigorated by 3rdeyegirl

I'm hopeful it will happen. Especially after the Warner's deal, he is really positioned to be even more loved by the masses in the coming years if it all rolls out to its potential. Plus...he has the back catalog to play wonderful songs that he didnt perform last superbowl performance (if you think about it he only did 3 of his own songs in 07)

Here's my fantasy performance:

When Doves Cry

Kiss

Love Bizarre/Jungle Love medley (with Sheila & the Time)

Somekind of Jam where he completely showcases his musical talent: playing bass, drums, keys

Little Red Corvette (intimate with red lights and the arena singing "slow down")

Nothing Compares 2 U (Duet with a great female vocalist. Someone who is great but knows how to be in second place and not try to dominate the stage. Anyone but Mary J Blige.)

I think that would be remarkable.
