PR Deluxe Unreleased Tracks

Realize that in nearly all cases the unreleased music on the PR remaster has never been mixed, much less mastered.

It is reasonable to believe that all the songs that you THINK you've heard exist as boots because they were rough mixes, (sometimes of not-even-finished-at-the-time tracks) given on cassettes to friends and musicians that were in turn circulated.

Those of you who have ever been involved in the production of recorded music know that a rough mix can sound COMPLETELY different from the finished product. Not always, but quite often.

So for those of you who might grumble bit about getting songs that you've already heard in bootleg form, it is interesting to note that even if they were relatively unchanged from the rough mixes the sound quality increase would reveal things you've not heard AND chances are that they will sound totally different as all you've heard in most cases are rough mixes.

There may be instruments that were left muted, (or not even recorded on the particular day that the rough was made) so you could have an a bonus disc full of songs you've heard a million times yet they still sound brand new with tracks and instruments recorded backintheday but unheard by you.

Not that this would be included, (or good) but When Doves Cry HAS a bassline. He said he tried it and didn't like it. How diferent would that be from the final mix?

Something to think about/anticipate.

Does anyone know why my post has a sad, blue frowny-smiley next to it?

You select an icon when you make a new thread, you must have clicked one of the radio buttons by accident.

I thought it had something to do with the deceptive thread title.

There's nothing deseptive about the title of the thread, you Massengill/Summer's Eve products just have poor reading comprehension skills. This thread is 100% about the PR Deluxe tracks and nothing else. Just exactly like the title says.

AND

It's an exciting and, as far as I can tell, unvoiced take on the matter.

How can no one be excited at the notion that whatever unreleased tracks are chosen will most certainly sounding quite a bit different than the circulating stuff - and not just in terms of sound quality?

What was misleading? Did you think that the tracklist had been released or some shit and I would somehow have it?

It's such an intellectual wasteland that I rarely sign in much less post. Most people respond as though they don't even know what language I'm speaking. Forgive me if I selected a blue frowny face by mistake. In my defence I did try to edit to look for some way to correct it.

Thank you for being a human being. I appreciate you trying to help.

I couldn't find it in edit and I didn't see anything when I originally posted which is why I was surprised.

Really, thank you for being cool.

It looks like edit only applies to the post. Once you make the thread it's stuck. Edit let's you change everything BUT the blue frowny and his/her friends.

Uh. Maybe? I don't think we have a clue what will be included. It's all a guessing game. Could be there are some real unreleased tracks we never heard, or it could be only a couple of the outtakes making the rounds will get inclusion this time around too. Hard to say. Few of those songs really sound like they belonged on PR, to my ears, but you're right, maybe with pitch change or something they'll sound magical.

I'd expect 1 live version of the title track, and an alternate version of Let's go crazy.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that mixing a song makes a huge difference. For example, I'm sure Prince made a rough mix of When Doves Cry with the bassline to listen to and get a feel of how it sounded. Maybe he just played it a few times in the studio and decided to mute the bass. The bass track was there and unless he completely erased it then it's just muted and there.

Another example is the Wendy and Lisa stuff from Dream Factory. The final MIXES of the songs that ended up on SOTT had W & L's voices removed, amoung other things.

In the case of the other songs that may or may not be on the PR Deluxe, the circulating boots are almost certainly rough mixes. They may have tracks recorded at the time that we never heard.

So in addition to amazing sound quality we might even hear new instrument trcks, new vocals. Hell, in some cases the final mixes may have LESS stuff on them than the boots.

It just seems really exciting to me. The sound quality improvement is great but they're going to sound different for other reasons, too.

I thought it would stimulate more than sarcasm.

Thank you for playing. I appreciate it.

Yeah, the songs might sound fresh or different in their final form. Or worse. Haven't all the soundboard leaks confirmed that a clean copy can do wonders for a recording? Did any of the PR outtakes go past the demo stages though?

Well, we can see from some of the unreleased tracks from Michael Jackson, you basically get what is available. "Al Capone" for example from the Bad 25th Anniversary set did not sound as crispy clear as I would have liked, it probably was not mastered as much as the rest of the album was (hence it was scrapped for Smooth Criminal).

You never know though. the unreleased version sof Crystal Ball that were out sound, NOTHING like the Cryst Ball released version which...had amazing sound I must add. You just dont know to be honest.

This is all true. And also, these songs may now be missing some of the original parts if the vault has not been kept 'tidy'. Maybe Prince will have to get ProTools out to fix them up. Oh dear....

I hope he does not add new vocals to any of the remasters. His new music is fine, but his "now" voice inserted into his "then" music (case in point the 1999 The New Master) clearly does not fit.

.

Instrumentation-wise, I don't have as much of a problem with that.
