Boy, I'm totally in love with that track, and the few seconds of Junk Music in UTCM excite me just as much! I respect that it's not your thing but me? It drives me wild! biggrin

A lot of The Flesh was live jazz-funk jams from Prince, Sheila E, Wendy, Lisa, Levi, Eric and Jonathan Melvoin.

Definitely want to hear some of that!

Sheila E's Merci4theSpeedofAMadClownInSummer reminds me of Junk Music from UTCM

This is exactly what I was thinking! I need this in my collection! Preferably the complete sessions but I'll settle for whatever final compilation.

yeah, that "a couple more miles" track sounds really good. like proto-madhouse.

the soundquality is also very good so someone, somewhere must already have

that Flesh album.

/

that's another interesting thing to watch now, if the PR remaster is released and

it actually does contain outtakes and uncirculating tracks, perhaps the 'chosen'

ones of the 'inner circle' will start to unload stuff all of a sudden, trying to make

a quick buck before their treasures end up on an official release.

/

that said, if anyone wants to shove me a full copy of "cosmic day" my way, i'm

willing to go up to $ 32,- and half a pepperoni/mozarella pizza. hit me up wave

I'd love that. That's what the reissues should be about. Releasing Holy Grail recordings. I can't see it though. I think the unreleased stuff will very much centre around the actual album being released.
I also can't see it being an exhaustive opening of The Vault. I'd love to be proved wrong but even so if I get a pristine version of Do Yourself A Favor, Moonbeam Levels, Possessed and what have ya, I'll be more than happy.
I hope he ties each set of outtakes to the album era and doesn't release something all over the place like the fake Crystal Ball.
It should be done in a way that younger fans can appreciate what it was like following Prince in his classic years.

I'm not sure a full copy of Cosmic Day is in circulation: those snippets supposedly come from a demo tape P did for artists to pick up songs from and that may be all we have.

On the other hand I know for a fact that The Flesh is in circulation among collectors and it seems at least Questlove has the full jam sessions that led to the album as well. Whoever leaked A Couple Of Miles told me that they were planning to try and convince other collectors to allow them share the full album, but obviously they didn't suceed in doing so sad

Well it'd be karma if it did get released. Those hoarders will have been hoarding for nothing.

sadly this thread has less than 500 views, so i don't see the interest being there to warrant a release.

If released as the never heard before legendary jazz-funk project by Prince or if released staight to digital on 3rdEyeTunes.com it would definitely make some cash.

.

All this Prince reunited with WB stuff I completely forgot about The Flesh! brick

I sure hope that's something he will throw at us. Or anyone else who wants to throw it at us for that matter.

.

The possibilities are endless with the amount of stuff he has from 84-90 alone. faint

No they were among the first bootlegged songs, back in the late 80's.

I first got hold of Witness in 87,88. It was a very poor, muffled quality. The funky version was excellent quality by contrast. I preferred the latter version until Box O Chocolates.

I don't remember us getting them in better quality back then, it must have been in the 2000's. All the good quality releases from 97-98 were from T.

Prince is VERY popular and 1980s Prince will always be a more interesting Prince to the world. The 1980's is very popular in culture now:dress, music, movies etc A 1980's package of Prince releases introducing the Time, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Sheila E, the Family, Mazarati, Jill Jones, Madhouse to people who know, forgot or never knew... Especially because of the 'Prince Connection' would blow the door open to this music

The first session was on December 28th '85.
Prince, Eric Leeds, Sheila E. & Levi Seacer Jr. recorded 8 tracks:
Slaughterhouse
U Just Can't Stop
Run Amok
Mobile
Madrid
Breathless
High Calonic
12 Keys

Prince was so pleased with the results that they all returned to the studio 2 days later to record another 3 tracks:
U Gotta Shake Something
Voodoo Who
Finest Whiskey

On January 5th '86, Prince, Eric, Sheila & Levi returned to the studio once more, this time with Wendy & Lisa, and Wendy's brother, Jonathan Melvoin. They recorded another 6 tracks:
Groove In C Minor
Slow Groove In G Major
Groove In G Flat Minor
Junk Music
Up From Below
Y'all Want Some More

On January 22nd '86 Prince assembled an album by "The Flesh" entitled "Junk Music" which consisted of the following tracks:

side one;
Junk Music
side two;
Up From Below
Y'all Want Some More
A Couple Of Miles

Junk Music was originally about 45 minutes long, but was edited down to 20 minutes for the album. A Couple Of Miles was an instrumental that Prince recorded on December 26th '85 (he also recorded Can I Play With U in the same session), Eric Leeds added some Saxophone to it on December 30th. The album was shelved due to the fact that Prince's time was taken up with other projects (Under The Cherry Moon, Parade & The Family). Prince liked the idea of releasing an instrumental jazz-funk album under a pseudonym. He finally got round to it in '87, but renamed the project Madhouse & ditched the old Flesh tracks in favor of fresh new recordings.
