Cue The Annoying Purple Rain Tribute Bands

Now that the news has broken about "Purple Rain" album getting remastered for reissue on updated formats, now Prince tribute bands are going to be more prominent now more than ever. Oy vay!

Funny you should mention that. On May 10, I'm playing a Prince tribute show ( not a Purple Rain tribute) and Dr. Fink is playing keys with us. Which is a terrible thing, considering all this great Prince news that came out a few days ago. Fun for us definitely! Not sure about his former bandmates..

Prince views "Purple Rain" as his work and his alone. To him The Revolution is a backing back: sub-contractors he hired to finish the job after Prince laid the foundation and drew up the blueprints. I would love to see Wendy, Lisa,Fink, Mark and Bobby Z jam with Prince at Paisley Park for a one-off, but Prince got New Power Generation and 3RDEYEGIRL and he would rather play older music in a fresh way rather than get fans hopes high. I respect it either way.

I don't know what his take is on all of this. I'll see him in in a few weeks. You can bet I'm going to ask him. If anything it will bring attention to him and all those involved with Prince in his early years. Which is good.
