Listening to RNR Love affair...

It's actually a pretty decent song. Maybe it's the weed, but I've been listening to this song quite a bit lately. HATED it when it first came out, but I'm turning round to the song recently. I agree with a lot of people's assertion that it isn't his best song, but it's also FAR from his worst.

Again, weed helps lol.

Does ANYONE else like this song? Anyone not like it at first then come to appreciate it later?

It's great background music. I bet it's even pretty cool music to play in a bar. And I actually like it more than I first did. It's very subtle vocally instead of his often so intense way of sayin I'M HERE, NOTICED ME YET? I'LL MAKE SOME FUCK SOUNDS... NOTICE ME YET?

So yeah, nice for a change. It's not a bad thing to sometimes release something with rounded edges. Not that he is being provocative in any way these days. But you get my point.

I've liked this song since day one, but the remix 7 took it to another level.

Change it one more time..

I always liked it. Yeah it's nothing spectacular, but I don't think every song Prince puts out has to be a Shockadellica. I also really like the Remix 7 version & the live Jimmy Kimmel version.

I don't think it's up there with the best, but I like that it is fairly mature and seems to actually have something to say. It flows naturally and easily compared to the more forced sound of Fuxurlifeup

It might actually be my favorite of all the 2013 material (that I heard)

The remix, has always been my preference. Generally the song is kind of bland, it's a groove when you jamming in the car on the phone with Moms!

Not much I can say about it!

But the remix version is what truly makes the difference. I just wished he changed his vocals on the remix, it would have brought it a deeper context to the song.

DID YOU KNOW? That when he performed it for the first time on Jimmy Kimmel, Joshua..(Hannah's Husband) was actually on the keys?

I never noticed it, until I watched it again! lol

I also think, the song in general, is what he is in now...A Rock N Roll love affair with 3rd Eye Girl...

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I still think the 'do u know what I mean' line is a reference to this song on some capacity...be it 'am rock radio' from the seventies or Lee Michaels(I doubt it) or it was just a tune prince dug as a kid for whatever reason.

Wow, yes I do see a connection. RNR is a very 70's type of song.

Always liked it. I liked the Remix 7, but the vocal sounded so ridiculously out of place that it was difficult to really enjoy it too much. I just listen to the original extended version once or twice a month on average, as it fades into an oldie song I won't listen to that much after say Jan 2015...I would think. Maybe the Plectrum Electrum release in April 2022 will satisfy me. Or whenever it gets released.

Funny, to me it doesn't flow naturally at all. It sounds like it's one of the first tracks he did after his "recording hiatus" and still had huge problems in that regard. "FixUrLifeUp" also drags a bit too much to my ears, but I consider it an improvement over RnRLA at least.

I'm happy people like it but I find it really dull. Prince music used to be the sort of stuff that had you notice that the radio was on because it stood out amongst the rest. This just blends with the rest of noise.

1st time I heard it I was not too thrilled. After hearing it a couple of times I liked it much more. I just did not consider it a very "Prince" sounding tune. Or better put, not what I wanted to hear from him at the time. It's a solid song. I just found it to be very plain for Prince. Honestly had the same feeling the 1st time I heard TMBGITW. (I'm not comparing the two songs, just my vibe)

.

With that said the song had a certain hook and I found myself listening to it more and more. I like the remix and all but I prefer the original extended mix for sure. Definitely one of my favorites out of all the 2012-2014 material.

.

I'm sure many here will disagree but there's something about it that I felt would appeal to the everyday radio listener and non Prince fans. If released to radio and put into their normal rotation I think he would have scored a hit.

It's definitely an improvement in terms of how the song is mixed and how the arrangements convey a sentiment of space. RnRLA is one of the most awkward-sounding mixes he's had. It's just flat and unnatural. I don't get any sentiment of "drive" from it, personally.

It's quite telling that many people on this site were complaining about what they perceived to be "synth horns" when the track came out - they turned out to be real ones, but just sound sort of fake due to how badly the mixing is handled on the recording in overall.

Fix sound shrill and bombastic and over driven...probably was intentional due to the subject matter. I don't favor it. And then the vocals come in...if it suits the song or not. And then the vocals come in...Bleh. Rnrla sounds chill and laid back...in line with the theme of the lyrics. Flat...maybe...but other words can be used to describe that. subdued, muted..but to each their own....I'm glad I have the ears I have as I said.

I completely agree. He hasn't released many tracks with the effortless lyrical flow he had since almost forever.
