Looks very nice, why is this only being released in Japan? Come to think of it, why are so many cool things released only in Japan by Western musicians, like those maxi-singles from the early ninties? I wonder if it has any special features? Why am I asking so many questions?

But is the quality good? That is the question, DVD's for sign o the times existed as imports and they were straight recordings from the vhs tape. And the quality on The undertaker and Sacrifice of Victor was also poor when issued on "Laserdiscs" .

It looks very good indeed.

The release date is said to be on the 3rd June.

Also, there's this Japanese website which may be related - http://www.sign-o-the-times.com/

According to this Facebook page, there's been several screenings across Japan recently as well.

I love this movie and this album but always thought the fact that some of this had to filmed at Paisley Park, that always bugged me.

It makes this whole thing seem disingenous.

Isn't basically everything overdubbed soundtrackwise? The whole project is in a sense very artificial, but the overall effect is good enough that I don't really care.

The film was originally intended to consist of live material filmed in the Ahoy' in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on June 26, June 27 and June 28 and in the Sportpaleis in Antwerp, Belgium on June 29. However, the footage from these concerts was deemed unsatisfactory, partly due to the film being grainy and unusable, but also because some of the sound had been recorded on different channels and was virtually inaudible. Consequently, the live performances were reshot at Prince's Paisley Park Studios (where the between-song segues were also filmed). According to saxophonist Eric Leeds, around 80% of the final film was drawn from the Paisley Park reshoot.

Ok, did a little research with my Crystal Google Ball.... US and Japan Blu-Rays are "Region A" and will play just fine in either place. (NOT the case with DVD's however.)

So...... I will definately picking up this set!!! THanks for the heads-up!!!

Also, for those of you who have a case of the "look-at-me-I-talked-shit-to-Bart-am-I-part-of-the-cool-club-now?"'s, get over yourself. People have different opinions and different ways of conveying it. Your way is not right and his way is not wrong, and vice versa. The sooner we can all agree to disagree this world will be a much better place. You all seem like grade-schoolers picking on the fat kid. Grow up.

and from there we get GB movie 98% shot in Paisley Park

SOTT as long as it was still live performances is ok with me. UGTLook was a seperately shot video outside of the film correct?

Thanks for the info. I was almost pissed until someone said it would play on US players.

.
I don't get why it's a bad thing that it was overdubbed or made at PP? Did P promise a live performance DVD? I would rather it be live but I really like the theatrical aspect of it, too.

Agreed. I hope this doesn't end up being some VHS source up scaled to 1080p. The best DVD copy of SOTT is this one http://www.amazon.com/PRI...B001CECROA with a decent 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack. All the others pale in comparison to me. But still not perfect quality to me. Very sharp pic but defiantly with some grain.

.

The packaging of this Blu-ray looks sweet. Still wonder what source is being used for Blu-ray if it's not from the original master film. Or maybe it is? Nice find though!

Somebody explained to me once (actaully it was from an interview with Brian Setzer, where somebody asked the same question), that local japanese markets are being corrupted by very cheap imports from outside japan. Buying a CD outside Japan is much cheaper, so record companies force artists to deliver additional content, so the consumer is more inclined to buy the local product.

I am sometimes inclined to corrupt my own local market, by buying the Japanese, better, product smile

You guys do know that SOTT has been out on Blu-... while now, don't you? See also http://prince.org/msg/7/380783 because people are lazy and rather create a new thread instead of looking if there isn't an existing one.

.

Ugh, seems I am guilty of starting a new thread too: http://prince.org/msg/7/405485 Really wishing this forum wasn't a forum but a StackExchange Q&A site, or that threads could be merged. Then again, threads involving new releases should be treated as news and made sticky so they don't drop off the page after a day or so because of a kazillion idiotic threads.
