Take the prince fan quiz

This is a scale I developed on another thread about establishing levels of Prince fnadom, names escape me but its still current at the moment. On page 2 I had a list of fan levels. And I have devised these questions for them.

If you can be bothered see how far you can get. Don't worry about the higher levels. Attempting them would take ages, but knowing them in your head is enough. Plus its a game not set in stone, so if the song "When Doves Cry" eludes you don't worry.

The levels to 1A are not counted we don't really care, rather than an SAT test or an exam, I stick to basic one sentence questions leading to a paragraph at most. The questions can be answered by the fans at each level, and several wrong answers will determine a level. Rtaher than drop the answers, already, have a go!

Of course no test is perfect and some people who get high scores may get basic questions wrong (Most level 5 people will be over Purple Rain lol ) and some low level ones can get hard ones right. Heres my list

Level 1 - Casuals

1A - Super casual, What was the name of the single that spent 5 weeks at number 1 in the American Billboard Hot 100 charts. Clue it's off Purple Rain?

1B - Club Casual, Name all the Top 10 hits off Purple Rain?

1C - Casual Plus, Name at least 3 other Prince albums between 1978 and 1992 besides Purple Rain?

Level 2 - Fans with Potential

2A - Fanette, Name 5 current or past members of the Revolution or the New Power Generation and then the instrument they were famous for?

2B - Minor Fan, What did Prince do on his 35th birthday and why?

2C - Good Fan, Name 3 women Prince was linked with over the years?

Level 3 - Prince Enthusiasts

3A - Good Fan, Name 10 B sides issued between 1982 and 1992

3B - Super Fan, Name all of Prince's official studio albums and the years they were released. You can miss up to 4 albums.

3C - Prince fam, What was the name of Prince's son who died in 1996, how old was he and what did he die of?

Level 4 - Hardcore

4 - Name 20 Prince tours, whether he was feature artist or a opening act, and the years they were performed.

4+ - Name every band member Prince had from 1978 to 1995 and the instruments they paid, plus the years they performed. You can only get 4 wrong and you do not have to include unofficial members.

Level 5 - Obsessed

5- Name 50 Bootleg or unreleased tracks

5+ Name every album released by Prince and all of his proteges, plus the year plus any singles released. 90% Accuracy will earn a pass for level 4 and 5 questions.

Level's 1 to 3 are meant to be easy, but 4 and 5 are hard and meant to take MUCH longer. I will not being giving answers for levels above 3C as they are pretty hard.

It would be quite funny though. Most of you should at least make level 3 and some should get 5+ I am only a 4 or 4+ myself and would have to look answers to Level 5.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

3A: How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?, Erotic City, Another Lonely Christmas, Hello, Horny Toad, Horny Pony, I Love U in Me, Feel U Up, Escape, Love or Money.

1b. not really sure where take me wth u charted soI didnt make it past that question. I do have all of his albums though so maybe that will give me a pass for that question. I actually dont know a few of the "easy ones". I guess I never really paid attention to alot of that stuff. Prince is my favorite but I listen to a HUGE variety of artists so I guess I never got into alot of personal stuff. I am happy being a Prince casual.

I must be a casual fan, can only do level 1c not a or b.

I know level 2c and possibly b if that was the name change? Have no clue on dates of that. Couldn't do a. I could probably give you 5 names but not also the corresponding instruments.

Level 3 is my most knowing level it seems, I could probably name the b-sides but no idea of dates or what they were b-side to. could name all the albums in b but would stumble on sine of the years and I know c

No chance of 4 but could do 5- and as for 5+, well I have a life lol

Answers Level 1A to 3C as I am only a 4 but could answer 5 too.

1A: When Doves Cry (If anyone got that wrong, why are they here?)

1B: When Doves Cry #1, Lets Go Crazy #1, Purple Rain #2, I would die 4 U #8 (Take me with u stalled at 25, but if they guessed the first 4 and then said Take me with u, they would still get the pass)

1C: Any 3 of the following would be acceptable, For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Around the world in a day, Parade, Sign o the times, Black album (Technically 94, but recorded in 87 and I would not expect a 1C level fan to know this), Lovesexy, Batman, Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls, Lovesymbol or Symbol album). Any later albums fine as long as they had 3 of the above in the answer. However Purple rain would not count as the question said 3 albums OTHER than Purple Rain

2A: (Multi instrumental players, I would accept any of the stated instruments other than vocals for non singers) Revolution, Brownmark - Bass, Lisa Coleman - Keys, piano or vocals, Wendy Melvoin, guitar or lead guitar accepted, Bobby Z/Rivkin - drums, Matt Fink/Dr. Fink - Keyboards/synths, Prince, vocals, guitar, whatever, Dez Dickerson - Guitar or lead guitar

I do not accept pre 1982 members like Andre and Gayle as the band was not called Revolution until 1982, I accept Dez as he left in 1983. I would expect few 2A fans to name Andre or Gail or anyone from the Champagne days anyway.

NPG - Sonny T - bass, Michael B - drums, Tommy M - Synths, Dr. Fink - Synths, Sheila E - Drums, percussion (I include NPG from 1988 Lovesexy tour, although purists will say it started in 1990), Levi Seacer Jnr - Guitar and Bass, Tony M - rapping or dancer, Mayte - dancer/vocals, Diamond and Pearl - dance, Miko Weaver - guitar/rhythm guitar, Rosie Gaines - vocals, Boni Boyer - vocals, Cat - dance and choreography. Matt Blistan and Eric Leeds hornz/trumpet/cornet/saxophone, Kirk Johnson - Rap and dance, Damon Dickson - dance, Prince - vocals, guitar, dance, piano and whatever, I would also accept Symbol or TAFKAP.

I would not accept TC Ellis as he was never part of the group except perhaps on GB.

2B: Change his name to a symbol, mainly to get out of his warners contract as he was dissatisfied. I will accept that he was sick of Prince and the concept.

2C: Any of the following- Sheila E, Mayte, Manuela or Mani, Vanity, Apollonia (Not really but rumour has it they dated a few months), Kim Upsher, Susan Moonsie, Lisa Coleman, Jill Jones, Susannah Melvoin, Anna Garcia (Anna Fantastic), Kim Basinger all I can think of now, any of these names wins a point.

Less likely as I am unsure of relationship - Tamar, Bria Valente, Ingrid Chavez, Sheena Easton and Andy Allo

Definitely not - Sinead O'Connor, Prince bitch slapped her, Mavis, Rosie, Boni or Patti Labelle

3A: How come u don't call me anymore, Horny Toad, Irresistible bitch, etc, I am sure those who got it right knew.

3B: You know these too, they range from For You 1978 to 20Ten 2010, I don't count any NPGMC ones, or boots and Chocolate Invasion/ Slaughterhouse, C note etc as they were not widely released ones. I will allow Newpowersoul and NEWS/ONA. I will not allow the upcoming album as it has not been officially released yet (Read the question).

3C: Bambi 82 answered this perfectly.

I think question 5 may have been too easy as well, also you can NOT look up answers but must be able to recall them from your mind AUTOMATICALLY. Any cheating will place you back at Level 0.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

By the time I hit 35 or so I was struggling to remember anymore, then in my mind I went through albums and eras to try and remember some more and they came to me. I was very tempted to be cheeky and say 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 from the unreleased 1988 third Madhouse album LOL!!!! That would be have been an easy additional 8 lol lol lol lol

PS Great album by the way, and I like the 1988 original more than the okay 1993 NPG version.

It would take too long to set up, But I am considering sporcle

The perfect test environment...

You are in a empty room with a funky weapon (pen), you are handed a purple test form by the NPG test operator. The cover says, you have 31 minutes 21 seconds to answer the test to level 4 and you are 2 spend no longer than 10 minutes on sections 1 to 3.

You are either released after this time, or you may opt to stay in for another 31 minutes 21 sceonds to answer the 5th level and enter the order of the purple dawn. If you pass you are officially a member of the New Power Generation.

There are rules, no talking and no invoking the powers of the Muse, Prince will check in randomly, but you must remain still and composed. If you cheat, you are expelled to the room of the banished ones. Cheating is the antithesis to the Theocratic void and upsets the equilibrium of the Rainbow children.

Why we test your Musicology of the Purple and the Divine, soothing back ground music from Kamasutra performed the New Power Generation Orchestra plays in the background.

Neither do I, and I became a fan in 1991, yet I knew it , as every release of Purple Rain and any article about Prince's life in retrospective mentions how big a success "Whe Doves Cry" I honestly could not think of a much easier question besides "Whats his name" or is a he a man, a woman or something you'll never understand biggrin

Really, for me naming tours is almost a cruise. Just tours, not every one off gig in between.

Heres the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Prince tour 1979 -1980 (The Capri show was a one or two off not a tour)

Rick James Fire it up tour (Support act) Feb - Apr 1980

Dirty Mind Tour (Support Teena Marie) Nov 1980 - Jun 1981 (If u count the Europe mini tour)

Controversy Tour (With The Time) Nov 1981 - Mar 1982

Triple Threat Tour (W Time and Vanity 6) Nov 1982 - May 1983

Purple Rain Tour - 1984/85 (Nov 4 - Apr 7)

Hit n Run tour - Mar - Jul 1986 (Can be included with tour below)

Parade Tour - July - Sep 1986

Sign o the Times Euro Tour - May - July 1987

Lovesexy in the Round (July 1988 to Feb 1989) - with break between Dec and Feb

The Nude Tour - June to Sep 1990

Diamonds and Pearls world Tour 1992

Act I 1993

Act II 1994

Ultimate live experience tour 1995

Love4oneanother 1996/97

etc ...... down to

One Nite alone 2002

NEWS Tour 2003

Musicology Tour 2004

21 Nights at the o2 2007

Welcome to America 2011

Welcome to Australia 2012

3rd Eye Girl 2013/2014

That level of detail is enough, months and support groups are not necessary, just knowing Prince's major tours is enough to pass.
