BLACK SWEAT -revisited

When this song came out, I thought it was ok, nothing ground breaking. Now listening to it, it is one funky a$$ groove! What a JAM!

A pretty good song, almost a great one. I'll gladly let the Bart Van Halen's of the world bitch about how awful it is. It must be a sad thing to not be able to like very good and great Prince songs. Black Sweat is really nice and funky. Of course, Prince largely ignored most of Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, Lotus Flow3r, and 20Ten when it came to live performances. And the sad thing, is he would pick the absolute worst songs on each to play live...

Musicology: Played Life O The Party, Musicology. Should have played: A Million Days, Reflection

3121: Played Get On The Boat. Should have played: Fury, The Dance, Black Sweat

Planet Earth: Didn't really play any weak tracks...but should have played The 1U Wanna C

Lotus: Ok, so he did ok with this one, but it was a great album, that deserved a proper tour

20Ten: By this time, he played weak arrangements of the songs he did play..he could have sang "The Beautiful Ones" over the music of "Future Soul Song." And with Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up" at the top her lungs, the shows were a mixed bag around 2010-2013, and obviously, some of those elements remain at the NPG shows today.

He actually played Black Sweat quite a few times when he lived in Vegas. And it was a thousand times better than the version on the cd with that high pitched squeal noise. It really was incredible.

Yes, he did play some of the better songs live...but he maybe played Black Sweat a handful of times...but he played "Jughead" every single DAP show. A lot of his newer material is simply ignored. After watching Aresenio, I hope "The Breakdown," doesn't end up where "Reflection," did.

Love the squeal. Still can't see why it wasn't a top ten hit. All the teenagers I knew loved the song.

Black Sweat was played a fair bit on the 21 Nights tour, complete with a very cool extended bass intro.

My point here is it should have been a song played every single night on a 45 or so date tour. 3121 did not get a full proper tour..just various dates, and many of them featured Tamar, or TONS of cover songs. I am saying it is too good a song to just be played at a small handful of shows. My example, is that "Jughead" was played around 50 or more times on the DAP tour, but Black Sweat was largely ignored. When it came to TV appearences, "Get On The Boat" was played like it was the best song on their. After playing "Fury" on SNL, he pretty much ignored that great song.

Black Sweat is a classic and one of the best Prince songs of the 21st century, easily.

yeah it's kinda true that he ignores some stuff and sometimes i feel like he is forced to play the hits or something just to make tons of money

if he were willing to settle for less money, he could do a plectrum electrum only tour and just play smaller venues, no hits or covers

but now i think he has got too many on the payroll for that

Its always been funky...if it had been released at another time it wouldve been a monster hit.

Black sweat is otherwise a decent tune but that dogwhiste ruins the whole song and makes it unlistenable

I liked that one too. Two vicodins helped me come up with that, I believe.
