A possibly impossible question..

Is there ONE moment in Prince's career, from any video, concert, movie, etc., that you loved the absolute most? There are so many moments I can think of that make my heart so happy, but I think my favorite-favorite is from the Musicology tour at the Staples Center. Right after Little Red Corvette and before SISIA the crowd stands up to applaud him.. and they don't stop. It seemed to surprise Prince a little, causing him to smile from ear to ear and hide his face. It was the sweetest and most genuine reaction I have ever seen out of him. The camera pans out and he looks so small, sitting there on his stool, surrounded by his adoring fans. I can't help but smile (and admittedly, almost cry) when I watch. =)

So, what is one moment that stands out the most for you?

First that sprang to mind was the love4oneanother special.

Especially the guitar solo/breakdown during the jam.

'and that's alright', plus that little piano flutter right before it,

in the song "under the cherry moon"

/

but that's just today biggrin although it'll probably almost always

be a moment from the Parade album, or it's outtakes.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

"everybody, everybody dance..." in the final seconds of Irresistible Bitch has always just felt so joyous to me.

Its very obscure and tbh it may not even be my most favorite moment for him, but on the Dortmund Lovesexy show during When Doves Cry when the band comes in to sing at "Dream if you can a courtyard", it gives me chills every single time and is something I always brace myself for to fully enjoy it. Just the way they harmonize it man, I cant explain it. Its beautiful, and drips of soul. And like I said, it may not be my most favorite moment, but it ALWAYS has an effect on me every. Single. Time.

I wouldn't call this my favorite Prince moment (I probably couldn't choose one of those), but there's a moment that comes to mind that is quintessential Prince for me. It's the moment in the When Dove's Cry video where he put on the hat with the veil just before he descends the spiral staircase. For some reason, when I think of Prince in the 80's and when I first got into his music, that clip springs to mind.

Ugh! Definitely top 5 for me, too. My breath catches every time.

Ask this question on a different day and I will give a different answer lol...

But one that jumped to mind was when he threw his guitar down at the end of his performance with Beyonce on the Grammys. It was like an exclamation point...a kind of "Take THAT, mf'ers" moment. Had he simply stopped and bowed it wouldn't have been the same.

I love his ad libs, like, on the new song FunkNRoll. Or there is a very soft, faint "call my name" on Call My Name for another example. I love when I can hear him working - him so still and silent then his lips smacking open before singing a line (The One). His feet hitting the piano pedals on One Nite Alone. Even his gum chewing (yuck) in places I won't even try to remember. Lol. The way he moves. His kindness. His smile. As you've said there are so many. heart

Lately for me it's been the first 5 seconds of the studio version of How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?. It's like the way he plays the piano on it when the song starts. Gives me a weird feeling but a good one. Of course there are plenty more like at 30 seconds when the adore chorus comes in. Greatest love song of all time.

It seems there's an edit on a cassette single that's 3 seconds longer. That would make it EIGHT seconds of sheer happiness for you lol

I wasn't there for the 1980s, so I'll go with the Beautiful Experience TV special. Yeah, I know it's not all that, but the selection of songs is good and it presents Prince after his name change, being rebellious and ready for some new challenges. I always thought The Gold Experience album would sound more like the music in the The Beautiful Experience TV special, but the album turned out to be quite different from what I thought it would be (it was somewhat overproduced). The music and the visuals in the TV special captured the "momentum" really well.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

When the guitar solo starts to really kick in on the "Just My Imagination" cover from Small Club. That entire concert is fucking amazing.
