Prince degrading his live performances?

You watch Prince killing it on guitar. You are so thrilled with the way Prince performed that you

want to hear it again.

Yeah the guitar is amazing but what the F.. is going on with the synths?

Who is this guy? Oh yeah that is Josh

hubby of the drummer.

Josh is maybe a nice and cool person but he totally ruined

Princes live performance of Shes Always In My Hair on Arsenio.

I have seen video from one of the Uk recent gigs and Josh is playing

some inaudiable cowbells during Bambi. At the end of a concert Prince and 3rd Eye Girl

and Josh bob the crowd and leave.

Josh was the last to leave the stage ,he made some hand

guestures to the people who were screaming*for Prince of course* like it was Joshs concert.

Why does Prince tolerate things like that ? Does he think that letting young ppl play amateur keybords or guitar make him hip?

As I've said once before, look at Josh as been the New Jerome Benton, he is a golfer and his antics on stage with his infectious smile ( same dentist as Hannah) can pick people up after 3hrs gig and Prince still wanting to play more. My opinion is he is a good guy doing his bit without getting front stage attention.

I was at the manchester gig, and believe me. Joss did not spoil a single thing about that concert! Prince is , still , the main man. You need to relax.

And I say amen to that.

The set-up may be simpler, but there's a fire in the whole performance that had been missing in Prince concerts for quite a while!

Hannah may be the most vocal, but on stage it's Dona and Josh raising the energy levels and pushing Prince.

I think having joss and donnas husband close to precedings is a good thing. In that Prince can carry on being unpredictabe as the bands partners can stay in the loop, puting less pressure on the band.

im not dissing you, im sure you have a point. In the bigger picture of things, I guess you are going to have to attempt to keep your band happy! He had no bearing on the 2 plus hour show he just did in manchester that i saw. I can only go on that. The arsenio show, things like the dancers at the beginning was a worse thing i thought.

Most of weren't in Manchester so SAIMH on Arsenio being destroyed is our benchmark.

if thats your benchmark, then i suggest you need to look at some of princes other live performances. Its dead easy. Theres 30 plus years to go at!

It's our benchmark for the current band.

Of course we do compare against the history we have.

The Rock Over Germany version kicks ass.

No its Your benchmark , wait and see them in a proper concert, thats all i am saying. Dont go on a few minutes on a talk show. If you have been a fan for a while you should know prince kicks ass live. I watched it and dont think it was bad at all. In concert, he plays the song for much longer, and is much better!

er

yeahthat I'm getting a little tired of folks judging a band simply by watching a few minutes on TV. And with 3rdEyeGirl being a guitarband, the keyboards are an extra and he doesn't need a Fink or Renato for that.

I think the problem people are having with Josh is we shall refer to as the 'cowbell conundrum". I think we're all used to Prince having a fairly tight band do I guess it's a little jarring to now and again throw the drummers husband in to whack a cowbell...that might be the type of perk you'd usually associate with an audience member being invited up on stage.

I must admit, the little I saw if him during the KOKO gig, it didn't seem integral to the stripped back philosophy but as it says in Dodgeball "Necessary? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No! But I do it anyway cause it's sterile and I like the taste"

Josh isn't necessary, it's not necessary to have Donnas husband around...but when has Prince ever done anything other than exactly what suits him?

Prince allowed Tony M in HIS band. Prince takes a talented singer like Shelby, and makes her a crowd flunky shouting "Put Your Hands Up" over 100 times in some shows, and you don't understand why he lets "Josh The Golfer" pretend to play keyboards? Really??? Do you really need this explained??? Really????

But why do we have to excuse the poor talkshow impression?

And we're not discussing P's performance.

We're about the keyboard guy's performance.

well the post title insinuates that prince is degrading his live performances, which to anyone who has seen his most recent shows is rubbish. As for josh , too much is being made of his stage performance. He is very much in the background. Prince must have showed him how he wanted it to be played! So dig at prince. Like i said, i watched it to and found it to be fine overall. I think there where worse things on the show, like the dumb relationship part.

TV shows a different picture and has different sound.

So we get to believe that mr P puts on this charade intentionally.

Have you seen him play piano? He's no Cassandra or Renato but he's not exactly an amateur either.

Change it one more time..
