This is strawman BS, though...There r some "true" fans that think the song is lightweight at best and shit at worst...That's all good and everyone should be allowed to say whatever...

That's not the issue....

The problem here is the sheer brazen negativity that has destroyed this site....Again, this is a Prince site...Of course you are going to have your over the top SUPER FANS declaring everything the man does as genius...No shit...lol

But reading through this thread little of "masterpiece" lauding is happening here.....What is happening is a few smug individuals want to prove they r the smartest asses in the room declaring the death of a single that has barely been commercially released over a week...

If u don't see the absurdity in that, that's on you, homie...

Then it's also absurd from the fans on here to say it's a hit. And there are quite a lot of those fanatics on here. "Someone" even said it will be bigger than Pharell's "Happy".

You can see the negative comments as a reaction to this absurd prediction. The yang to the ying.

Actually, no, homie......No one said it would be bigger than "Happy" (more strawman shit....lol)...They said that Skateboard P's song took a while to bubble.....Which it did....

And again, I could understand someone going crazy for a Prince song given that this is a Prince site....That's not absurd at all...U would see the same thing on a website dedicated to Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Arctic Monkey's ect....Welcome to fandom....

Again, I think what's really absurd is folks playing Debbie Downer on other fans being happy about Prince's first media friendly song in a long time, whether it's poppy fluff bullshit or good (that's an opinion...)...

But no one in this thread has come out and said the new song is a bonafied chart hit ....What they are saying is stop being an ass (not u in particular) and declaring something dead after little over a week out...

Ya dig?

No.

I love electronic music, but not this style.

Dig the title, and I like the light hearted lyrics. Surely, love Prince his voice and the melody.

But I just can't listen to the song. I tried. I cringe.

It's the first Prince song I just can't stand listening to. Sorry.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Cringe with you. Although...lately I cringe often to his music. Wha happened? It's just not the story he tells, it's how he tells it. Excuse me while I brushteeth

I thought this when I first heard the song. He still has potential in today's pop world, I think he may not want it.

its a hit...and i aint just saying that as a fan..if prince gets a video out and gets some decent promotion behind this ...its a top ten hit..it might be a bit lightweight but its got more hit potential than anything in the last 15 years i would say..

Not to be a negative Nancy, but this song in my opinion is pretty terrible. I like the title & the idea & I like Zoeey, but the song itself, I just can't listen to this. It sounds like bad tv theme music from the late 70's or some washed up club music. There are decent parts in the song, but as a whole, it just doesn't do it for me, I wished it did.

I just heard this tune on XM's "20 on 20" channel. Seems there are some non-Prince fans liking this one!

You can cast your vote on SiriusXM.com to keep this song in rotation. biggrin

Peace...

Bollocks. There are a certain few posters here, and everybody on this site knows who they are, who will make negative comments and attack Prince no matter what he does or what song he puts out.

Militant, I hold you in high regard, but I completely agree with ludwig about the yang to the ying remark: the harsh negative comments even out the absurdly positive posts by some in here.

Both the extremely positive and the extremely negative posters are annoying to most people here on this forum, but both deserve (need!) to be heard IMHO. They balance each other out, and make this place more interesting in the end.

So please let the negative posters be negative, and let the positive posters be positive. And we all know that extreme opinions will evoke extreme reactions, so the people that post extreme opinions (wether positive or negative) should know -and be willing to accept- they will get some unpleasant reactions.

Prince.org hopefully is a place comparable to a democracy, where all can say what they want, as long as no personal attacks are made. Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing, and it is up to the people to make up their own mind after having heard all possible opinions. IMHO of course! wink

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

@bbcradio2 every day for weeks. Sometimes twice a day. What's the score here? As the UKs most listened to station with 15.4 million listeners a week is the record being bought? It's getting huge play time on this station, far more so than RnR Love Affair. How many pence does the artist get for each play? Is it 7p?

actually it never made it off the C list which is 5 plays a week, and was on their for 4 weeks. RNRLA was on the A list for about 10 weeks which got played between 15 - 20 times a week.

Some say this song has a house/techno vibe to it. I like EDM, Dance, House or whatever you want to call it. For someone who appreciates this music, PrinceĀ“s song is even harder to listen to. Apart from the cheesy melody, just listen to that synth sound... and then compare it to One by Swedish House Mafia or Armin van Buuren or something like that. I know they are not comparable and it is not about who makes better songs (Prince has already proven himself a long time ago in that department) but just listen to the sounds...

Sesamy street music is what PrinceĀ“s song sounds like

Then there are those sensible types who will deride a song and praise another when they feel it's due. I like 'The Breakdown'. Fair enough for you?
