After 3rd Eye Girl, what do you want from Prince?

So, the 3rd Eye Girl project has given many fans what they wanted - a raw, stripped down, rock formation.

My question is, what do you want next?

I would like a real return to the Minneapolis Sound. A return to Prince's pioneering drum machine and synth programming, with funky rhythm guitar and super tight bass licks and vocal effects. Essentially, a modern day "Controversy" combined with "Camille" album. No horns, unless they are heavily digitally processed.

Hey Militant, I am with you, this idea sounds very very good.

But is Prince able to do so..? I have my doubts about that...

Now, be prepared, for fans (fams) soon saying "the Purple Rain era" is long over... lol

I'd like a steady streem of 40-45 minute albums.

Release early, release often.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Hmmm interesting question Militant. Personally I am enjoying this 3rdEyeGirl stuff and liking the old skool rock sound. It strangely feels fresh. Not even got the album yet so hard to think beyond but if trying...

I'd like some creative curve ball like we got with The Rainbow Children. I didn't see that coming and while I can live without the sermonising and Darth Vadar voice, the music and musicianship is great. So yeah, something unexpected (I think he attempted and to some extent failed to recapture that MPLSound on that named album and 20ten so would be surprised if he went there again for a while).

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

On the contrary, when he did do that, as I recall these efforts were rewarded with more unanimous fan appreciation than anything else he's done in a long time - I'm talking about "Lavaux", "Sticky Like Glue", "Beginning Endlessly", "Old Skool Company" in particular. At least here at the org, anyway.

I'd like more songs like those, for sure.

Quality songwriting matched with interesting melodies and fun grooves in songs that hold up to repeated listening. You know, the exact opposite of Funk N Roll and Fixurlifeup.

a solo album by Prince in the same vein as Lotusflow3r. Cuz the songs I heard so far from Plectrum electrum indicates that the album wont be much better than Musicology

How did you like the live album he gave away on YouTube over the last few months?

I skip all of those lol Old Skool though, headbang

I'm happy for him to keep doing the 3rdeye stuff for a while, I love the rock stuff. Not sure what I want afterwards but I'll look forward to it.

I'm with you on this one Militant and I agree with thedance, Does Prince even have that type of raw funk in him anymore? He might be able to pull out one or two songs, but a whole project worth, I don't think so.

I don't hear MPLSound as being anything close to the Minneapolis Sound, which is why I prefer Lotusflower over all

I want Prince to keep 3RDEYEGIRL around for a couple of years and release 3 albums with this group before he moves on. Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL are a distinctive group musically and visually. Musically, live they are raw, youthful and vivacious and I think Prince has something going with them. They are a viable rock band that with the upcoming album "Plectrumelectrum" and several more albums could carve out their own niche within Prince's legacy. Visually, the women are beautiful and have distinct looks. Prince has kept musicians and singers longer than he should have like Shelby J, Cora and Josh Dunham for example. I want him to keep recording with live instruments and analogue recording techniques because rarely on record has he released records with live playing all the way through. Prince has already recorded a project based on the Minneapolis Sound-"MPSLOUND". There's more than enough recordings of the Minneapolis sound to last a lifetime. "Real music by real musicians" is a mantra he has preached since 2002. They do it on record as well as in concert. Prince can continue with this band.

Interesting analogy... and if that's so we can expect this album and whatever follows to be heavily underappreciated when it comes out (even heavily criticized) and only appreciated years later as actually being good work.

Change it one more time..

Very good question. if he keeps this band another 2 years, after that what else is there to do? play all the salacious material that he hasn't played in years then retire? issue remasters with outtakes, b-sides, etc?

that's a hard question to answer. i honestly don't know. he's done pretty much everything.

Let it go. He's already been there, done that. People have been asking for him to do this since ATWIAD (his best album by the way). He's not going to do it.

Can we just enjoy the good rock flavorted music he's doing right now?

As others have said, I want him to do a few more albums with 3EG, to develop and grow together for awhile and see what results from them all influencing each other. Right now they all just got past the point of getting familiar with one another.

After that?...Something more edgy and experimental, working with other producers and songwriters even. Maybe even something like the Desert Sessions, only Prince plays the role of Josh Homme. Bring a bunch of diverse talents together and see what results.

Crystal Ball 3. And with a wider release than CB2 which was sent to just a few of us. It irks me that so few people have access to CB2. Electric Intercourse (studio version) is just so.....I have no words.*

Calm down. It's a harmless thread. And if you want to talk about "been there, done that", then 3rd Eye Girl is pretty damn similar to "The Undertaker".

I am enjoying what he's doing right now. I've seen 3rd Eye Girl live twice, in Las Vegas and in London and both shows were utterly fantastic.
