Ah now we're talking! Did Prince read my comment on the LGC video? LOL

They groove. Awesome version. Love it!

I want to hear the whole song, the whole concert.

And also on youtube. I'm beginning to understand why everybody's freaking out about these shows. You can tell there's some real fans in there if they're singing along to this one.

Weird seeing him not wearing hi heels. Looks like he is hiding the fact too. NBD...if him wearing flat footed shoes gets us a 3+ hour performance biggrin

I'm not feeling this at all. Prince used to blend funk and rock like no other. For this project, he has completely abandoned funk. There's no groove!

right.. I am with you, there's no groove, the great thing about this song is missing. confused

The guitar solo is great, otherwise this version doesn't impress me at all.

I was about 3ft from Prince when he was singing & doing those guitar solos & lemme tell ye, that show was full of funk! Prince spanked his bass right in front of my eyes & funked all over me!! Ha ha Tremendous tremendous show!! How can Prince abandon the funk when He is funk?!

Yes Prince is funk. His playing is funky. The 3EG ladies not so sure.

The LGC video e.g. is not funky at all imo.

If 3EG played alone without Prince I don't think things would be as good as with him there, holding the reigns.

And here they groove. The drumming is still a bit sluggish at times as in following P's guitar rather than driving the beat but there is a groove and some nice fills.

Yeah, I would not say the girls are funky. They are more of a rock band. Which I guess is the point?

None of them stand out in my opinion but they are all equally great on their instruments. They can learn from him. The Musicology band was probably teaching Prince some new things. I like it this way better but I'm not sure why. It's like seeing a band develop. If the chemistry is there maybe he will just keep them and continue to grow with them?

Can't please all of the people all of the time, and that I am pretty hard to please, says something. This is some of the best I have heard in the longest time. And when in comes to the word FUNK, it reminds me of a certain orger that always felt that his definition of the word was THE definition. I do not think it means what some people think it does. Like defining GOOD or GREAT, it's up to your own ear to decide.

It was never overly funky in the first place. On record it has a structure more suited to blues than funk. The drum programming was almost anti-groove in it's angularity.
I've hated the NPG as a live band since One Nite Alone. They sounded more like a showtime band than a funk outfit. Prince's aura has been buried amongst synths, horns and annoying shouty backing singers.
At least 3rdeyegirl leave space in the music. Prince has always been most successful as a minimalist.
I'd have loved to have seen a show. They've definitely destroyed a lot of my cynicism.

agree with everythign youve said..the npg, albeit very tecnically profiecient, couldnt do this..Also, love this vid as he makes the audience another instrument to compliment the band

He's always posting about Prince on twitter. He's a part of the whole Prince army thing. Plus he was on that Paddy McGuiness show apparently, 'Take Me Out' (?)

so, was at the Garden in Boston after work thursday and Friday of the past week. On Thursday JT played and on Friday it was Kings of Leon.. Now, both acts are considered big stars etc...I will tell you that I saw not one fan there who had a visceral, mind blowing experince after those shows...nor was there the least bit of excitement in the small que to get in the venue..Contrast that with Prince's recent shows..Yet, folks bitch about release dates and managers,,,JT and KOL have what you want go see them instead
