Prince's sound effects in other places

Hi!

So, the other day I watched All About Eve (1950, with Bette Davis) on Netflix. And lo and behold, during a street scene early on in the film, I hear the honking horn sound effect from the beginning of Lady Cab Driver! It was quite startling to hear a sound effect that I knew so well... I half expected to see Prince running by yelling, "Taxi... Taxi!" lol

So, I'm wondering if any of you guys have heard any of the more famous Prince sound effects (it's been reported he used generic SFX records) in other places... the baby from Delirious? The marching feet from Free? The boxing match from Pop Life? If so, I'd like to check 'em out! cool

This is quite obvious, but I still hear more bits and pieces everytime I watch Batman.. it's odd.

The mission control talk on 'Space' is from one of the Christopher Reeves Superman movies.

There's a sound effect on 'Human Body' from an N64 future racing game called 'Extreme G'.

I'm pretty sure the NPG operator on TGE uses keyboard noises/beeps from 'Jurrasic Park' on the SNES.

First two i'm 100% positive on. Third? maybe.

.

'Elephant Box' by Ingrid Chavez has the bridge doors from 'Star Trek'. Just popped in my head for some reason! lol

I've heard the riot sound effect in Pop Life in an 80's horror movie called "Alone in the Dark"... during a riot looting scene.

Many people think the sound effect in Pop Life was the sound of Prince being ridiculed during his opening at a Rolling Stones concert. That is not true!

The big sound studio fx sound libraries were really pricey, and you got a whole box of useless overtly recognizable sounds like that. The other half were things like "a jar of pickles" which go figure, didn't sound anything like a jar of pickles. You were kind of stuck with whatever the studio you were using owned. Universal, and Warner Bros. were really common ones.

I've definitely heard some sounds from the Lovesexy album pop up elsewhere. There's a long rising synth sound with chime or bubble sounds over the top (I think from Positivity) that's particularly common.

There's a sample from either a key or sound library that P used I think on the Alphabet St. ext mix or some other Lovesexy-related track (can't remember right now) that's also used on the Mico Wave album http://www.discogs.com/Mi...ter/151164

It's a great funk album, produced by Boosty, by the way biggrin

Riot, huh? Interesting... I always thought it was a boxing match because of that one guy who shouts alone: I'm sure he's saying either, "throw the bum out" or "roll the bum out".

Of course, depending on what sort of riot you're having, such a line might be completely appropriate! lol

Not sure if that's what you're implying (the title makes it seem so, at least), but these are not "Prince's sound effects" that other folks sampled from his songs. Instead of creating his own sound effect sampls, he rather made use of common accessible film sample pools, which many film producers also did (especially in the 80s).

Yeah the thread title was a little vague, but I figured that since I stated that All About Eve came out eight years before Prince's birth, and said "it's been reported [Prince] used generic SFX records", I'd hoped that the gyst of what I was talking about would be pretty clear.

Anyway, 'Sound effects that Prince used that other people also used' just didn't scan. lol

Dayum, there it is! I originally thought you meant the whole clip was in there, including the cheer (which might have been odd for a riot). But that's definitely that guy's voice! I wonder what that clip was actually called in the original sound effects collection...

I think on Pop Life, it's a combo of sfx tracks off a standard collection used in Hollywood.
