cuz he only played the uk once since 2007 and london is the captital city of one of the most important countries in the world for music. he did shows in europe the last few years and missed the uk, and he's toured the states a few times. plus he knows he can do last minute stuff there easily and people will travel from over europe

While Prince's popularity in the USA faded a little From Lovesexy to TGE. In the UK and Europe Prince's popularity soared.

Prince probably feels that Europeans will be more open to new music.

And I also add: WHY NOT LONDON?

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I've read somewhere that Prince is doing the whole 3rd Eye Girl because he wants to cement his reputation as one of the best guitar players ever, cuz that is the one thing in his career he hasn't really achieved yet. Sure, lots of people in the know appreciate his guitar skills, but he wants to be remembered on the level of people like Santana, Clapton or Jimi.

----

Seen in that light I can see why he would like to conquer the world as a proper guitar hero starting in London: he might indeed see 3rd Eye Girl as his version of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, with Jimi being another American who kickstarted his career from London and then returned to the USA triumphantly about a year or so later.

---

I think it is pretty cool that he starts off so low profile in small clubs with small entrance fees, just like a regular new promising band would. This move will surely get a lot of publicity worldwide, such a big star playing small clubs for small fees -ever so humbly- with this new rock band. I think this is a very smart move to generate more media attention to 3rd Eye Girl, especially as there is some kind of analogy with Jimi Hendrix starting his career in London back in 1966.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Because he already did these shows with 3EG nearly a year ago in the US, or at least part of the US.

And it is proving to be true with critics raving in a religous fashion over his non-hits show. I remember US reviews when he played a couple of obscure songs in a set once and he was bashed like Hitler.

er

The whole talk of "we start small and move upwards" also indicates that he sees this as starting afresh with a new band. Of course he's fooling himself (and he knows it) just like people wishing for a Revolution reunion are (and they don't know it): nobody is paying money to see 3EG any more than people would pay money to see The Revolution. They pay money to see PRINCE. No matter who's in the band.. So it's a bit of a game: let's pretend we were a beginning band... Just like Bowie's Tin Machine. But it's a nice game and if the shows are good (and all reviews say they are) then I'll gladly play along. cool

Because there is a Tube Strike on, the weather is awful, and nobody's got any money. Also 05-02-2014 = 77.

Don't know. Pass.

It's 7 years since the O2 and he likes 7. He probably ignores Hop Farm as not many people seem to remember that it happened even though it was a great show, but it's convenient to forget it to get a 7 in there.

Heard a rumour he likes jellied eels and loves to go watch the 'ammers although he's not that keen on Big Sam.

Yeah why not? He's always welcomed and loved in Europe isn't he =)? I'm actually a little jealous of Prince right now to be honest. London I mean Europe in general has always been a dream place for me to visit!!! someday...lol

True...j would be paying to see prince...but what's truer is that I would be paying to see what working with these people for this period of time has brought to prince. That intrinsicly involves Hannah, Donna, and Ida. Their abilities, their assets. Their abilities to lean and teach along with princes ability to learn and teach, as well as a curb(for whatever the reason or motivation) in appetite for dictating. I'm much more excited by the results of this product than the product of Najee, Rhonda, and Morris H. I think a ratio of learning:teaching:dictating has much more to do with it.

I'm also speaking of me and not the general population at p concerts.

What the gp always gets though, is the product of princes work with his fellow band mates....sometimes its crunchy, sometimes its slimey...but its ALWAYS Prince(that's a cheech and Chong quote for any C'nC' heads).

Also:

He chose London because 'Ruhrgebiet' (yeah, google that) would be too easy:

There's plenty of cities, large industrial environment and thus workers, people with cash to spend.

Or did he remember his 2011 Cologne debacle? lol (see http://princevault.com/in...July,_2011 '5 minutes + 85 minutes')

He returned in Cologne 13 yhears after the previous problematic show at the same venue and made the same errors.

The soundcheck (despite the length in 1998, 2013 was a bitshorter but still plenty long) did not fix the apparent issues.
