What's up with the Prince station on Pandora?

I love my Prince Pandora station don't get me wrong, but I have major issues with it. Pandora is supposed to be based on Music Genome Project algorithm. So Pandora is "supposed" to have no concept of genre, user connections or ratings. So why the fuck do Michael Hackson songs come up? I keep voting them down but that fucking candy ass cotton candy crap keeps popping up. Other than both being black pop icons from the 80's, their music could not be more different. So it boggles my mind. Someone MUST have manually made the connection, there is no way any non biased algorithm would make the connection. If we are talking 80's pop icons, Madonna's music more closly resembles Prince's than MJ and she is nowhere to be seen.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, sure I get it. Led Zeppelin of course. Queen absolutely. George Clinton, of course. The Gap Band, almost every track makes sense, even Janet Jackson! But her brother Michael? FUCK TO THE HELL NO! And while I am at it, why so much KC & Sunshine Band? Why no new wave? Early 80's Prince was heavy on the New Wave.

Another thing, for a supposedly non biased algorithm, why does Pandora play mostly artists from the 70's when creating my Prince playlist? Especially when there are SO MANY new artists that blatantly copy Prince. I am willing to bet money that this supposed non biased algorithm is manually hand tweaked and bastardized.

the least they could have is a "do not play" list.

Spotify has a better Prince radio. But if your a Padora person, I get a Somewhat better 'Prince station' if I listen to 'New Power Generation' (Artist) radio. Shuffle it with Jesse Johnson, Morris Day and some other choice similar artists and it's Not bad. But when I need my fix I usually go Orange wink

But you Still get MJ. I have given him the thumbs down constantly and he still shows up:(. A few here and there would be ok but simetmes you wonder if your not listening to the Michael Jackson station.

Exactly! with someone with such a deep catalog of music and genres, some which he created, they only play a handful of the popiest ones.

I agree, Pandora playes way to much MJ and JJ, They started playing Elvis yesturday. I tend to stick with TheMplsRadio station but that one plays a LOT of Shelby J. which is just as bad IMHO sad

When I play it, I get darned tired of hearing the same 6 Prince songs in rotation with the ones you mentioned by other artists - and not even Prince associate artists either!

Same songs over and over. Last time I was on there, it seemed like all they had on there was Hits 1 & 2. And maybe TVBOP.

Here's the trick...instead of making a "Prince" station, make a "Wendy and Lisa" station on Pandora. You'll get everything Minneapolis (and some other stuff...Grace Jones, Neli Finn, etc)

Make it so, Number One...

I had the same problem, you'll get mire Prince songs on the New Power Generation station or go to Spotify

Yesterday while I was at the gym they actually played a newer non-70's song - Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke, which I thumped up and could see it fitting in with the falsetto and Marvin Gaye influences. But almost every track was from the 70's lol. There is so much new music that shares Prince DNA, a lot of today's music is directly influenced by Prince.
