P & 3EG whats with the 'REAL MUSIC BY REAL MUSICIANS' nonsense!

oh & ...'we're bringing back something that people have felt is missing in music'. Seriously there is soooooo much friggin amazing music out there. Yes the charts & commercial radio are dominated by crap BUT even in the regular charts there's still a regular abundance of real singer song writers, great musicians who can cut it very well live & creativity way beyond anything the 3EG project has delivered.

This 'real music by....' is just spin & bullshit - don't fall for it...u r only ever 1 click away from good music!

Prince has been spinning this phrase for years.

Its not making anyone rush out and buy 3EG.

Don't get worked up over it.

wouldn't mind BUT when shit like prezelbodylogic is served up as 'real music by real musicians' [with a totally ripped off guitar riff I might add!!!] that's when it really winds me up!

Yes, it's a bit silly... "Real music by real musicians... bla bla..".....

The irony is Prince is still really skilled. But. Often, you can't hear the skilled "musician" in Prince's new music...... that's a problem. For him, maybe.

It's partly Prince's own fault that he isn't that popular anymore.

Some (most?) of the new Prince-music (from 2013) is bland..... doesn't sound especially good.

when Prince is talking about "Real musicians bla bla", I guess it is because he still have his ambitons to be important and make a difference in the media, in the music business, today...??

About the music on todays mainstream radio.. that is bloody awful... I agree with you there, too, when I am listening to music, I am usually nostalgic, and "going back" in time.. to the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s..... smile

cheers, i too am finding solace in retro music BUT so many established artists have delivered stellar albums over the last 2 years i.e. elton, maca, rod [yes i said Rod], Bowie, Boy George & many others. Likewise there is a frightening amount of new talent out there too. In a nut shell P, on record, just doesn't do it for me!

What a bullshit slogan! You can be as fucking real as you wanna be, if the creativity is not there, it's the same crap as everybody else's crap. There's no excuse.

Bullshit. Nothing ripped off about it. Its a simple riff, its hard not to have similarities with other songs. There's ripping off, which plenty of people do, and then there's musical similarities.. or being musically influenced by songs. A person who's written as much as he has is bound to have plenty of songs that share chords in common with other artists songs. Saying that because those similarities exist that he's ripping someone off is just stupid.

Change it one more time..

Really? There's other good music in existance? Thanks so much for pointing that out confused

And, anyway, both the slogans you mention have nothing to do with other people making bad music, but are his observation of a general decline in musicianship, which has some basis in fact. Until fairly recently, relative to the history of music, you could not make a record or compose a song without having some kind of musical tuition and the ability to play an instrument or sing. Now, technology enables people to do just that - make a track even without having to play an instrument, or hold a tune with their voice. Most of the time, it sucks (with some rare exceptions). The best music has always come from people who have dedicated themselves to years of practice and training.

Unfortunately, your eagerness and zeal to constantly discredit Prince clouds your comprehension.

"Real music by real musicians" is not nonsense. Its just that We have heard it a Lil too often by Prince and not enough by other "artists".
As to the stolen guitar riff comment...
Talent borrows, genius steals.
[Edited 2/3/14 17:28pm]
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

People around here need to smoke a j and chillax. No need giving yourself a heart attack over stupid shit. Take a real break from the rut you're in and seek new perspectives on life. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.

If it is recorded on analogue equipment (as it is claimed to be), then I guess that's rather exceptional these days?

Maybe not -- and then again, the difference will only be audible to analog-fans wink

real music by real musicians is nothing more than his catch phrase, which he has been using for at least 10 years now. everyone that has followed him in that time knows that it speaks to performing your music authentically live and not pre-recorded, especially in concert. When he first started the catch phrase, there were a lot of popular artists - and still are - that cant even seem to do the basics, like many of the stars did pre-90s, without a lot of help from the production crew. prince is not insulting other dedicated musicians.

prince career path has taken the RUSH turn .. only musicians who want to hear musicians tune in .. everyone else finds prince music to be rubbish .. except the lil groupies of course .. prince is a real musician and the bass player at very least is great .. however .. prince needs to take the REAL SONGS BY REAL SONGWRITERS approach as his musicianship far outways his ability to contruct a song worthy of a musician of his caliber to perform ..

How does it feel to completely ignore reality?...I tried once but can't seem to do it. Does it require drugs or something?

I think Trevor ignores reality indeed in the sentence you have underlined, but he really has a point in the "real songs by real songwriters" bit. In my opinion, the problem is not whether the sound is organic or electronic, neither is it a problem of musical proficiency. Prince's current musical problem —since I think he has one— is with songwriting.

I think Prince writes music as if he's leaving the door open for radio-play. If he goes back to writing music without care for what the radio likes then I think he'd produce music more aligned to his capabilities and less according to what he thinks the mass public wants to hear.

Change it one more time..

If that was the only thing he said I wouldn't even have bothered posting lol...

For the record, I don't think there's much difference in terms of songwriting quality between, say, "Screwdriver" and "Peach". Both are rather simple in construction and both have questionalble lyrics (I was sure/When her titties bounced...really, Prince? lol)

Well, the real issue is that Prince is talking about the shittiest musicians out there, rather than putting himself up against the best. That may be why his recent material sounds like it is pandering to the lowest common denomenator.

Not at all... lyrically they're both about as basic as it can get. Screwdriver is about taking Andy Allo on the road with him. Peach can be about any randon hot chick he's banged. Both sound like he wrote the lyrics in less than 10 minutes.

falloff...Not even remotely.

"We smash guitars and shatter glass"

Vs.

"Her hotpants can't hide her cheeks"

"Forever's worth the wait when it comes to love"

Vs.

"I was sure, when her titties bounced"

"Empty car on a fast lane, in the driving rain"

Vs.

"Get her done is all that's in my head"

"I'm your driver, you're my screw"

Vs.

"She's a peach"

Yep, just a HUGE difference there in terms of quality of lyrics.

These two songs have a helluva lot more in common than you will either acknowledge or comprehend, I'm not sure which.

At least your post helps prove a point made by many here: that when it comes to Prince's music, personal taste is being presented as undeniable fact by a few too many around here. That, and that Prince's older output is being romanticized and his newer output is being demonized.

nod...yet Screwdriver's lyrics have been described as sounding as if a "12 year old boy wrote them" while Peach's lyrics are not. There is nothing BUT "12 year old boy" lyrics in Peach lol...

But that's the thing: when it comes to rock & roll, "12 year old boy" lyrics are often a good thing, and has been throughout rock's history. Prince gets that. Simple songwriting is often a good thing, too. Anyone think Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones is complex, innovative songwriting? Anyone think that half the lyrics to Satisfaction are anything except the epitome of "basic"? Anyone think the song needs to be more than that? Not me.

*disclaimer for the logic-challenged: nowhere in my post did I claim Screwdriver is as good as Satisfaction, so don't embarrass yourselves by trying to claim I did lol. Thank yew.

**All of Satisfaction's lyrics are not the epitome of "basic", I stand corrected.

I think there's a difference between immature and "animal" (though those two can overlap a bit) and that's the distinction between a) Satisfaction, Peach, and b) Screwdriver
