2013 - What Happened ??

I expected so much from Prince in 2013 - Atleast 1 CD if not 2. I appreciated the little he gave us but it felt like atease. Will we get more in 2014 or this Prince we can expect from here out.#feltcheated

I wonder why he's releasing so many different versions of So Dark,Bambi,Something in the water, Days of wild etc its pointless. I'm also tired of Shelby j and Liz and the current npg sucks, way 2 much horns 2 make it enjoyable 2 listen 2 them.Yes no album in 2013 was a huge dissapointment since there was alot of talk about this Plectrum album during the whole year

I suspect some of it isn't for us but for the casual listener as promotion for the live shows, hence the snippets and multiple versions which all are of no use to us really. Some other stuff, such as the 3rdEyeTV shows or the 3rdEyeTunes are aimed at us, but not all.

The problem is that we're completists and we end-up with all these unlistenable snippets on our hard drives, mixed with the good stuff, and that makes the 2013 playlist somewhat boring lol lol

So you think songs like Bambi, Something in the Water, Days of Wild etc. plus the omnipresent backstage singers Shelby J. and Liv will attract the "casual listeners" ?

How so?

Those songs mean much more to the die-hard fans than to the casual listener, and if they are indeed meant to attract the casual listeners, then someone should tell Prince that the casual listeners couldn´t care less about those clips of those songs that were posted on Youtube, nor do they want to pay big bucks for a show that mainly consists of the lamest version of the NPG with Shelby J and Liv doing Prince karaoke while being occasionally accompanied by Prince.

I understand he´s getting older and maybe wants to save his voice but come on, instead of doing a very lame 2.5 half hours show he might as well do a shorter but tighter, better set, with him singing full versions of songs, preferrably his OWN compositions, just him and his piano and guitar and a tight band, an acoustic set in between, no sermons or stupid catchphrases, no audience on stage etc.

Now THAT would attract the casual listeners. But the current modus operandi? Not so much.

I saw both shows at The Myth - and they were excellent.

Good year, for me. shrug

His shows sell out. IDK if the vids have anything 2 do with it but it seems to me the casual listener is hooked.

And the Montreaux concert film? Coming soon? What was that bullshit about? They (he) could have put that up on day one of 3rdeyegirl as a way to promote. Stream it free for a few weeks even, then take it off and make it for purchase only. Give the public a free taste of his live genius again. Instead, it was all just more bullshit. Sigh.

20THIRT3EN! He delivered that is what happened! The 3rdEYEGIRL Livestream was the most personal thing Prince has EVER done 4 his fans. Giving us livestreams 4 FREE, that was UNBELIEVABLE! Plus special sneak peaks inside his mega Paisley Park studios of rehearsals, with the revamped NPG was a dream come true 4 any fan. On top of that, many treats from his vault new & old remixed & newly made songs, that were done the same day all throughout the year. Then of course his small venue tour with 3rdEYEGIRL.

Then he handpicked a fan too treat him on a night he will never 4get, with hotel accommodations ,transportation & front row seats 2 Xperience him 4 the first time live!! Then a personal meeting!!! Then his Billboard innerview cover story, that lead 2 his show stopping per4mance on the Billboard Awards. Then his surprise appearance on Jimmy Fallon! Which lead to his private ping pong match with him, that was the talk of the industry... That is just some of what happen in 20THIRTE3N!!!

Eye feel sorry 4 Prince. He has the most UNGRATEFUL fans of any artist in history.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I saw the 2 shows at Myth, 3 shows at Paisley Park, fDeluxe at Dakota, and Sheila E at the fair in 2013. Tickets were already sold out by the time I heard about the Dakota shows in January. Prince hasn't played that many shows here since 2000. With word that he's been rehearsing for a tour, hoping we'll get another show soon.

Pure polemics. You both are just obsessive compulsive fans that set up a strawman argument (the "casual listener") so you can put down Prince's music and insult NPG band members.

PS: the thousands who went to the shows in US and Europe last year were all die hard fans? lol

Precisely not. I've argued over countless threads on this forum, defending Prince against what I felt was unjustified attacks and insults. I've fought over so many threads against people who came and insulted Bria, Andy, TC Ellis and other Prince associates without caring what these people could feel when reading their insults because obviously they come here and read the threads about themselves. I've defended Prince's recent music for years, for I like it as much as his "classic" material. I've fought in general for the respect and dignity of celebrities and artists who deserve respect for their commitment to music if not for the fact that they're just people like anyone else, who can be hurt like anyone else when reading bullshit about themselves by people they've never even met. I've gone on numerous ranting over the fact that Prince is a human being with both flaws and qualities and not the ignominous monster some people here claim he is. And I've been called every possible name by the people I was fighting against and that was fair enough and I always tried to remain polite no matter what they called me. But to have a brainless rookie popping up here outta nowhere to call me a "hater" when I've been fighting the haters on this forum for 13 damn years, this I won't tolerate. So I'll say it again: f... you, rookie! Read what people actually write on this forum for some time before you start categorizing them, and show some respect!

I can understand the frustration of some because of all the snippets and live versions of songs we already have 20 versions of, but he indeed promised "bootlegs" 4 daze" and delivered. We hadn't had so much music delivered in a single year since NPGMC in 2001. Now whether people like it or not it's their problem, but one can't say P didn't deliver.

U know how P is... he's done it countless times... Same story with Roadhouse Garden, Old Dogs New Tricks, Crystal Ball II, Peace, High, the 2000 Rosie Gaines album, Madrid 2 Chicago, The Chocolate Invasion boxset, 20ten Deluxe and probably a few others I forgot.

I think he's sincere when he announces something: he's enthustastic about it and wants to do it badly and then after a few weeks he will suddenly lose interest, start something else, shrug and shelve the thing. It's frustrating for us hell yes, but it's the way the dude is lol

The only time it really pissed me off was Lotusflow3r.com because that time I had paid in advance for the shit and got a coupla peanuts thrown at me and all of a sudden it was clear that what I had paid for wouldn't be delivered and Prince was really rude with us on that one, not to say dishonest. But when it's just an announcement, well... I've gotten used to it after 25 years I guess, I won't really believe something will be released until it's in my hands lol

Looking back at it, I feel that the 3rd eye Girl project really was just a minor distraction, none of the music was that meaningful. A few singles and some good driving rock, but nothing to really whet our appetite. Still Screwdriver and Groovy Potential were decent jams. Breakfast can wait was okay, rest was pretty bad.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Well the joke is that u need psychiatric help because actually you weren't even responding to my comment at all. I wasn't saying anything negative about Prince or his music or insulting him and his bandmembers as you claimed I was! You didn't challenge shit: u invented something that I didn't even say and in response to that imaginary thing you made-up a story about my motives and you called me compulsive obsessive which is an insult in my book.

So once again, if u're gonna read things that don't exist and respond to them, go bother people on another forum: we don't need another nutcase on board!

Prince released more this year than most artists release in 5 years. I for one am very happy with 2013. His embracing of social media as well, thanks to 3rdeyegirl, means a lot more purple goodness for us all going forward. I will gladly take a repeat of this year quantity wise for 2014.
