Goosebump moments in Prince songs

Are there any parts of a Prince song that no matter how many times you listen to it, it always gives you goosebumps because it's just so awesome and the gift taht just keeps on giving smile

Some of mine are:

1. Call My name...the end part where his voice goes high and he really pushes the song to another level

2. Rock hard in a funky place- the guitar solo. fking genius.

3. Come- The buld up at the end after the interlude when P goes yeahhh you should do that baby, oh yes oh yeah oh yes. Come you should do that baby yh yh yh yh yh yh oh yh woooooh! no more no more.. headbang

4. My love is forever- Singing just before and the final guitar solo...wow Prince. just wow!

5. Extrodinary- at the end when he is in a sweet falsetto "Time, everything else when U r near...."

6. Tamborine. All of it. Puts me in a goosebump trance. neutral

Byron

The ending of "Purple Rain", with the violins and cello

The ending chorus of "Old Friends 4 Sale" (original version, not the Vault version)

All of "Annie Christian"

The base line at the beginning of "Arrogance"

This part of "Don't Play Me":

Don't be mad at me, the curtain puller in the game
Maybe all, how you call us, niggas ain't the same
It's all good when you know the only fame
Is the light that comes from God
And the joy you get to say His name

Don't play m

All of "Anna Stesia"

All of "Venus De Milo"

The guitar solo at the end of "I Hate U"

The guitar-heavy ending of "Calhoun Square"

The guitar-heavy ending of "Family Name"

The guitar-heavy ending of "Rainbow Children"

The bass-heavy intro and drumrolls of "1 + 1 + 1 is 3"

All of "Housequake"

All of "Joy In Repetition"

The ending of "D.M.S.R.", especially the "Please help me, sombody, help me!" part

The instrumental beginning of "Dear Mr. Man", with the haunting shimmer of the keyboards/guitar/whatever, followed by that base line...damn near perfection

The overlapping vocals at the beginning of "Digital Garden"

The "Down on my knees, begging you please/Pleeeassee!!" part of "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore"

The short bluesy guitar playing at the very end of "Had U"

The moment the bass kicks in on "7"

The scream on "Darling Nikki"

The scream on "Something In The Water"...actually the entire song

The ending of "The Beautiful Ones"

The guitar solo on "Computer Blue"

The guitar solos (both) on "Temptation"

The guitar solo and ending of "Xenophobia" (from Chicago concert)

The last minute or two of "Still Would Stand All Time"

The beginning of "Superfunkycalifragisexy"...that maniacal laugh is great

The end of "Superfunkycalifragisexy" that starts with "Serve it up, Frankie"

All of "Bob George"

The ending of "Solo"

The horn work on "Billy Jack Bitch"

The horn work on "$" (if it is actual horns lol)

This part of "Holy River":

If you ask God to love you longer
Every breath you take will make you stronger
Keepin' you happy
(Happy)

And proud to call His name
(Go'n' and say it)
Jesus
(Jesus)

And over and over you ask your soul
Why'd you come down to a world so cold?
And the voice inside said, tonight the truth will be told
And this time I was listening

Hear me

I went on down 2 the holy river
I called my girl and told her I had something 2 give her
I asked her 2 marry me and she said yes, I cried
Oh, that night I drowned in her tears and mine
And.. and instead of a glass of sorrow and wine
Looking back y'all, I don't miss nothing except the time
And when I see that picture upon the wall
The one eye staring at nothing at all
My eyes trying 2 focus but these are much different tears
Oh, yes they are

All of "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore"

All of "When I Lay My Hands On U"

All of "Colonized Mind"

All of "Dreamer"

And probably several dozen more if I actually put any real thought into it.

This is why I don't bother trying to criticize Prince, even if I'm not exactly overwhelmed by some of his recent output...he's given me way too many "goosebump" moments over the last 30+ years for me to see anything about his career in a negative light. I'm too appreciative of what I've received from his artistry to spend time focusing on what I didn't receive.

"Man O' War"....when he segues from"loving you is a waste of time" to "I need to get out of this city, I need to get you out of my head" the sincerity unnerves me.

"U Make My Sunshine"...fuck me, I love that chorus

This is a beautiful sentiment that I share. Prince and his music has been a gift to my life.

When the song Purple Rain comes to a heartbreaking resolve...I sob like a fucking baby.

Power Fantastic...the trumpet accentuating Prince's tender and spooky voice. Goosebumps.

Sometimes it Snows...."heeee used to say, OHHHH, NOT AFRAID TO DIE, UNFRAID..." sad

Here on Earth...."she curses the day she ever met u, then she wishes she was never born..."

"RIIIIISE, RAINBOW CHILDREN....RIIIIISE!!!!" razz

How the tune Lion of Judah starts to rock out......razz

"But first I must do a fitting..." O.N.A

You know, I could go on and on and on and on.....makes me fucking love this guy again.

Condition of the Heart, the piano intro is haunting

Purple Rain, the opening cords and the ending with the strings

Around the World in a Day, because I still remember the night I bought it, and put it on

Power Fantastic, just the whole thing is fantastic, then I found the intro piece too

Sometimes It Snows In April, the simple touch of it, the sadness it all feels so real

Everywhere, the utopia hopefullness makes me happy

Planet Earth, the 2nd half chorus and instruments turned up takes me away

Too many to list... but here's a few off the top of my head:

* The entry of the final synth hook in "Strange But True" with the additional harmony. Musical orgasm moment. There is so much happening in that song, and this bit caps it off.

* When the horn line enters in "Rockhard In A Funky Place". A true mix of bebop and sludge-funk, without any compromise of integrity.

* The 'making love with words' section in "Lovesexy", when Cat's voice is sped up and then slows down to reveal Prince's voice. Genius.

* When the synth chords hook enters at the end of "I Feel For You", accompanied by minnimal bass thumps and pops. Blows my head off every time.

... I could go on...

One of 2 different videos I have seen of "Live 4 Luv" sends chills through me as soon as the first chord is hit. The ending does that, too.

In "The War" there is a guitar solo that he does that is absolutely spine-tingling for me.

No matter your age, pursue your dreams so that you will LIVE.

MrMoops

from a performing perspective...

Playing the ending build on "Beautiful Ones" to a packed stadium was indescribable.

The Cross was a bit like that too, and the reaction coming out and opening an encore playing the 1999 hook was crazy. (there are others, but that's what comes to mind)

20 years ago and I still get shivers thinking about those. GOOD GAWD

There were already so many great ones mentioned!

.

One that gets me EVERY TIME

is the straight guitar solo version of "Days O Wild" at the end of the first 'Ahdio Show' from the NPGMC.

.

When i hear it all the way through without distraction, i will literally shed tears.

How he "dances around" a single note with pure... like, ya know... what?!

.

Prost!

I actually get goosebumps when I watch P perform SISTER, THE CROSS (end part) & Adore (when cat is on the swings "She don't know..") on the Lovesexy tour dvd

Oldie but goodie for goosebumps is the performance of Darling Nikki in the PR movie. The intensity and expression on Appollonia face and Jerome's..amazing moving making and P's performance is...well he's in rare form

The one/falling in love live performance...wow

The whole dirt mind music video

The bootleg performance of head from 1980 I think where he wears a shredded greed top heels and spandex hold ups biggrin ...the blues guitar playing rules
