Obscure Prince songs that could be a hit today if he gave it 2 another artist

Could the same thing that happened with Nothing compares 2 U happen with other relatively unknown Prince songs from the 1980's

Personally I think:

Give 'It's gonna be lonely' to Rihanna & an extended version of 'Crazy U' to Robin thicke.

That's just for starters

'When we're dancing close & slow' would be a massive hit if P gave it 2 Ne-yo

Unfortunately - and I know I will sound like the old man that I am - I don't believe there's much of a market today for well-written pop or rock songs.

Sadly, I just can't think of anything he's done that would translate into a hit today, no matter how much it was hip-hopped up by a current producer.

Sadly, I agree with everything you said...

"Poom Poom". I love that song for Prince's silliness and there are certain elements that remind me of the late J Dilla. If given to another artist it could top the Hip Hop/R&B Charts.

The good old Robin Thicke formula was more or lesse built around the style of songs like Crazy U, and I agree that it could be a hit. Maybe not a superhit, but a good and popular song. He has a voice that totatally supports that way of singing.

Replica is on point with "Crazy You," but I could see a country cover, with someone like Alison Krauss killing it. Same with "Gotta Broken Heart Again"

"Still Waiting" is a song just begging for the next young country ingenue to cover.

As much as I despise a great majority of today's pop music, I think Vanity 6's "Wet Dream" could be a chart-topper for Katy Perry.

the live version of Vickie Waiting minus the batman reference could easily be a hit for Justin Timberlake ... i would love to hear damien and stephen marley mix it up on Blue Light .. jack white could probably throttle Da Bang into a hit single .. R Kelly could take on Underneath the Cream .. Beck would do a great High and it would fit well with the midnight vultures record feel .. i bet the flaming lips could turn The Rainbow Children into the epic psychadelic gospel fuzz blast it was meant to be .. Joni Mitchell could have a comeback hit with The Ballad of Dorothy Parker with maybe a Cher believe in life after love mixed with toms diner suzanne vega feel ... I would almost bet money that No Doubt could record a bazillion times better version of So FAr So Pleased and turn it into a hit, something with a hella good feel .. I wonder what Rihanna would do with The Breakdown ... Janelle Monae would sound great doing Jack U Off, tho it may ruin her image .. Jay Z / Days of Wild ... Beyonce / Make ur Mama Happy ... Lady Gaga / Love .. Ray Lamontagne / space universal love remix ... Adele / Wasted Kisses ... Tony Bennett / The One ... Kanye West / Something in the Water

Adele disagrees with you.

(I'm not saying anything she has written was as good as Prince's works, but she clearly sings and writes pop music.)

*Condition of the heart covered by Adele could work with a faster tempo.

*It's obscure to the general public.

I would love to see "Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)" become the big hit that it deserved to be,but I don't know who could re-record it and do a great job with it.

Bruno Mars doing Lady Cab Driver

The arrangement would need to be similar to Treasure in tempo and mood. The JJ sex scene should be dropped.

The hook to this song is great if it's brought out to the front. After all, the chorus of Oh Sheila is basically the same melody.

Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Rihanna should immediately form Insanity 6, a space-age feminist "sex is power" girl group reclaiming lingerie pop one song at a time to save the world:

The groove would be so long and hard there would only be space for four 12 minutes mega-dance songs, which would be:

Nasty Girl

Sex Shooter

Vibrator

Blue Limousine

All the proceeds would go to famine relief and hunger would end in the world for two months... in all my dreams.

Lady GaGa should cover all of Prince's dirty songs; I can't even see the front cover of the album: licking a 10 inch purple vibrator...

Rihanna doing Our Destiny would be a hit. Its a simple song that doesn't require vocal prowess. Even with mixed results, Prince would make a killing if he produced an album with current pop stars singing his more obscure material. A lot these acts would probably work with him for free.
