2013 = 6 new songs + a couple of videos + some "secret" lapses

Well, I must say, I am not really satisfied. A year without a proper Prince album, only some online snippets here and there.

Why not do us a Christmas favour and release a whole online CD with about 15 songs, I don't care if some of them are vault outtakes or live versions. But I do want a full CD worth of songs... cool

Well, well, well, there goes a supposedly "BIG YEAR" - didn't I read that sometime ago...

Let's cross fingers for 2014...

I've considered myself a die-hard before, but this year is too scattered for me. I'm not speaking of the musicial content at all - I'm speaking of the delivery. So many different websites to folllow and keep track of (Prince2013, 3EG, SoundCloud, Livestream, Twitter, Funkenberry, iTunes, etc). Songs in different bitrates and file formats.

.

For someone who last year claimed the "Internet is dead" - he's sure making a go of it albeit in a frantic and chaotic way. Almost like he's trying to make up for many, many years of missing out on what the internet has to offer musicians in way of distribution . . .

The west coast tour was clearly the highlight of 2013 for me. I love the 3rdeyegirl show as a change of pace, but he didn't take it to the east coast. The new songs, livesteams, etc. were disappointing. I like a small handful of those songs. I almost never play the music from 2013 and I'm a fan that generally likes his newer stuff.

The best thing that came out of 2013 for me was the new live version of let's go crazy. I have never liked that song and I generally hate new versions of songs, but this new version has brought to life an old classic. I never get tired of seeing it live now and I used to groan when he would play that song in the past.

I'm sure that the new CDs will be good.

Well he gave us more than 2012 and 2011 combined so I am happy. Just face it, he has retired as far as the Prince of old days where there is an album a year. Those days are long gone as are the fans that made it worthwhile financially for him. I would like to say thanks Prince for a great year!! We got an album worth of songs scattered throghout the year and he played a few shows in the USA. Unfortunately I could not afford to go but I am glad he made himself available to us for a handful of shows!! Again, better than the last 2 years

I feel exactly the same as the bolded section. I played the hell out of LotusFlower, and 20ten, and for that matter Planet Earth, 3121, and Musicology ... and like all of them to some degree. This year, even when I listen to a song and kinf of like it, I'm not compelled to listen to it again. The real exception for me is the Screwdriver remix...I love the ending of that one, so I've played it a decent amount of times. And I kinda like Same Page, Different Book as well.

Songs like Ain't Gonna Miss U and That Girl Thing and The Sweeter She Is and Groovy Potential and Da Bourgeoisie ... I listen to them once or twice when they came out, kinda sorta like them a bit, and never listen to them again. It's very uncharacteristic in my 30+ years of Prince fandom. Oh well. Honestly, I had to look at ARock's playlist to even remember the names of them.

And let's not even mention Live Out Loud. EVER AGAIN.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I wish he would've have released more strong studio material this year, like 2y2d which I like very much from the bootlegs. Instead he release boring stuff like Ain't gonna miss u, Screwdriver, Bcw etc. And the way he release his music now is just fucked up

As someone who was lucky enough to see one of the Las Vegas shows, I agree!!!! At the moment, it seems the "3rdEyeGirl" project is slightly more impressive in person. The recordings and songs released aren't quite capturing how well Prince and the girls work as a unit.

3rdEyeGirl live was more good than bad, but their studio work, up to this point, is probably on the level of the low points of Prince's career (NewPowerSoul, GoldNigga). I don't want an album from them, but if he must make one, I hope he gets it right. I think it's disturbing how much Prince's focus was on freshing up Purple Rain era classics. That doesn't sit right with me. I think the remixes are kind of a sign of disinterest and boredom with the songs. Yet audiences expect him to play them when he tours. 2013 seems like it's one of those years where Prince worked because he had to, not because he really had anything ready to go.

The hit & run concept seems to have evolved from tours to recordings. I understand that he wants to remove illegal stuff from the internet, but even the official tracks are there one day and gone the next!

Went to all four Vegas shows. Loved them!! So 2013 was a great year for me. The one livestream I caught was pretty cool too. He's free now and can do whatever he wants. Bet he is having the time of his life.

I have thoroughly enjoyed 2013, which included enough new songs to constitute an album, an amazing (if limited) tour featuring new songs and rarely performed songs, and two tv performances that I love. As far as I'm concerned, 2013 has been an excellent year of Prince work.

So far 2013 was a year with some tryouts, both tracks as well as in performances.

Prince has released more music in 2013 than in most of his career's year. Only most of it is live or rehearsals. It is definitely a BIG year in terms of quantity, even if it's not what we expected (me included).

I agree, it's been a great year if u look at the amount of music he has released this year, the problem is the lack of strong studio material. Now we have a bunch of new songs that sounds like b-sides and are as weak as the material on Prince's less interesting albums (Musicology, 3121, 20ten) and that's a step in the wrong direction in my opinion.

From now on,this might be the way that you'll have to do it.Prince releases random songs throughout the year and the fans compile the songs themselves.I think that he's bored with releasing albums the 'normal' way.

One can always speculate if he's bored or if he doesn't feel confident enough to release it (the quality of the songs would support this option), or if he feels he won't get much money out of it and therefore he can't be arsed... confused

Why don't u compile it urself if u're willing to accept live and rehearsals? There's been enough material to compile 5 albums since the beginning of the year.
