In the song, "In a Large Room with No Light" I always thought he was singing "... a picture of a woman with a dick in her hand." It wasn't until he re-recorded the song for one of the Montreaux concerts that I realized I had this wrong. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!" | |

I don't think you were wrong. There was a big public debate going on back then over public funding of art that was controversial, i.e. "Piss Christ" and others. Jesse Helms led up the charge to defund all public monies for art because of a few artists that actually challenged people to think. I heard that lyric connected in some way to that debate, as Prince's commentary on the subject. In A Large Room With No Light reminds me of Sign of the Times lyrically, both of these songs point to the craziness in society.
