er

I love that track, but not as a single. My choice is Black Sweat.

Mine too, Black Sweat is awesome and should have been a smash. The fact it charted at all, says something about its quality. I would put Crimson and Clover and Dreamer up there too, but not sure if they were big singles or not.

Of the Millenium albums, Lotusflow3r and 3121 stand head and shoulders above the rest. And they were full of potential hits.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Crimson and Clover. Every time I play it, people are like, "who is that?" lol

I also like Extraloveable, though that probably doesn't count.

The last single that had a real chance of making any real waves was TGRES. That could've been huge had they not of fucked up the single release and video.

Following the excellent "Eye Hate U"... => Gold, is the really good "last single".

In late 1995/ early 1996. music

I like songs like Come On and The Greatest Romance, but.... since Gold the singles haven't been really good.

^Everybody? Not me! Apart from his falsetto vocals the song is totally garbage. Weak groove and weak instrumentation!

Many non-Prince fans that have heard Black Sweat come on my stereo have immediately asked me to burn them a copy. I'm talking half a dozen people or so, with very different tastes in music. So I agree that this could have been a hit if promoted correctly.

TGRES had a great video, looked very profesional 4 Prince. He did promote it, performed the song on Dutch television! never did this be4..the song just wasn't that good imo.Last great singles are Fury and I really like RnR love affair, great video and the song got stuck in my head. And maybe he should have released The 1 U wanna C...in 2007,this song grew on me after all this years.Black sweat would have been better without the high pitch, some people just can't stand that.

I always say, this song, coupled with a video with some goofy-ass line dancing, would have taken right off. Sure, it would have embarassed the shit out of most of us, but the C&W yokels would have eaten that up, and Prince could have laughed all the way to the bank.

The Greatest Romance had a video, yeah Prince made a video half a year after the single was released,

It was such a mess - no timing at all, and a wasted opportunity...

Yep, Black Sweat is almost a great song. But it has two major flaws, the worst being that high pitched wail of a keyboard line. It's ear-piercing.

My choice for best recent single is Call My Name -- catchy melody, sweet sentiment, some clever & some edgy lyrics, pretty good video, little bit of promotion, and lots of radio airplay.

I suppose so, but still next to what was a hit in early 06, that song was head and shoulders above the chart fodder of the period (Thinking Fergie, My Humps etc). The only really decent chart song of early - mid 06 was Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, and even then I like Black Sweat more.

And yet Crazy was huge for weeks, that could have been Black Sweat too, even Te Amo Corazon could have been Top 10 if it had been released say 8 weeks after it. I honestly thought in early 06, that Black Sweat had number one hit written all over it, probably his catchiest chart hit since Cream.

I'm going to give a nod to; "7".

Came really close to being the shortest-titled #1 song when it was released.

I remember waking up to it (had my TV set to turn on automatically, and had it on VH1, which was playing the video on heavy rotation).
