The butchered Footloose and so many other iconic 80's films...

You guys should check out Reckless with Aidan Quinn and Darryl Hannah. I thought why does this movie remind me of Purple Rain. Then I realized Albert Magnoli was the editor. He must have borrowed some ideas.

8 Miles was DEFINITELY an unofficial remake of Purple Rain, it borrows SO MUCH.

Also, watch the 1984 film Reckless, it shares so many things with PR (Magnoli was involved in it and that's what got him the job for PR)

I don't think an official remake of PR is possible, though, the whole film was built around Prince's personnality and soundtrack, it wouldn't make any bloody sense to have someone else portraying the Kid and playing some other music.

There were rumors about a sequel 2 years ago but I guess they were just gossip by uninspired tabloid columnists...

It's funny I first saw that movie when I was 21 and I LOVED it deeply, it embodied everything about teenage revolt to me. I had watched it on TV and could never put my hands on it after that, so it became one of these mythic movies you'll never forget.

Then I finally found it onine and watched it again last year, being 35, and I found it as dull, boring and empty as a movie can be.

I was SO disappointed, a myth from my early years had falled down sad

Yeah, its a pretty dull movie, but he best part was the spastic dance scene with Aidan and Darryl. The camera circling around them like a carousel is still pretty impressive. it was a very visual way of showing how isolated this two people felt.

Oh, yeah. They took the Purple Rain formula and applied it to gymnastics. lol All these movies were borrowing heavily from Rebel Without a Cause.

Another reason would be the music. How could you remake Purple Rain without the music? Prince certainly wouldn't allow them the rights to use the music.

That's besides the fact that this is the dumbest thread I've seen, (unless it's a joke).
