Now that Prince has performed Days of Wild with revamped lyrics, is it time for Face Down to make a comeback?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his awesome performance of Days of Wild in NYC last August was the first time he's performed the track in its entirity since the Celebration shows. I know some folks oppose the revamped lyrical content, but there's no denying the NYC performance was hot!!
My question is, do you think Prince could successfully revamp Face Down in a live setting?? This song was always a concert highlight back in 97, anybody who's heard the live renditions from the JOTY tour will know what I'm taling about.
How about it Prince???

I agree that the live performances were fantastic, but he'd need to to re-write it entirely, wouldn't he?

He managed it with DOW, which has just as many curse words as Face Down.

Dead like Elvis, check, check, 1 2, check
You know what he's sayin'?

Face down, face down

.

Somebody once told him that
He wouldn't take Prince through the ringer
Let him go down as a washed up singer

Ain't that a shame? Thinkin' all along he was in it for the fame
Never respected the root of all evil and he still don't to this day
Bury him face down, let some other sucker wear the crown, okay

Face down, face down

.

Told 'em he wanted to sing a song
About a black child goin' buck wild
And they just laughed in his face

Talk to your lawyer but you got no case
What you need to do is keep your place
Next time you pull a card, it better be ace, o.k?
Or you can lay face down

.

(Face down)

1 2, face down, 1 2

Him and her meaning who I'm singin' about
And his psychoanalyst kinda saw the catalyst
As the devil with the blue jeans on

Ain't it kinda funny when you see the dawn?
Sign the name they gave ya but when them other suckers
Turn around, lay down, you're what?

.

Face down, 1 2, face down
New power generation in the house, bury 'em all
Face down, yes, oh Lord, face down
Face down, face down

It's in his will, I read it, he shot to kill, he said it
For those who know the number and don't call
your loss y'all

Face down, face down, face down

.

.

i'm sure prince could rewrite it to fit his current values in about 4 minutes,

this drivel above took me only 2 lol

who knows, perhaps he'll dust it off again. it sounded nice live, although i

always did prefer days of wild since the groove of that lends itself better

to various live arrangements.

He toned down the swearing on the X-tended Money Maker Mix

I agree about the JOTY live version with bass solos so yes it would be cool to see him re-visit it

Agreed!! I was not a fan of Face Down until I heard Prince play it live. Now it's one of my favorites from Emancipation.

Despite Isten calling his own lyric changes "drivel," I think they are actually very well done and could be acceptable to Prince. "Face Down" is one of my top favorite '90s jams, and hearing it live would be awesome (by that, I mean being at a show and hearing it performed, not listening to a live boot from '97).

He played it in 02, it was even released as a stand alone single. And there was that rehearsal version 2 years back but IDK if it led to any love per4mance back then.

I love Face Down, it'd b nice 2 have a rock version with 3rdEyeGirl biggrin

I think it would be difficult for him cuz the attitude behind the song is not in him at this point. Change a lyric here and there or not...the general direction of the song is one he doesn't seem to be espousing anymore. IMO...
