it wasn't a critique against R&B..absolutely.. I was just saying it wasn't a real number 1(number one in the genre not overall),,just that... wink

To me any number #1 is a success! Especially from an artist, that is been in the business for almost 30 years! People on this site always says! "Prince will never have a charted single" or" I wish Prince can get another hit on the radio". Well its coming sooner than U think!

I agree wink

First recent Prince recording I have heard in a long long time that I didn't turn off after listening to it for 30 seconds

I haven't liked any of the 3rd eye stuff. The music just sounds so bland and the lyrics are so clumsy. Rock and roll love affair... C'mon Prince. Prince has struggled so badly lyrically ....really for the last decade or more.

However, this song was really good. Lyrics were tight not clumsy or awkward phrasing that seemed to stumble or be out of sync. The fuzzy guitar in he middle of the song. A gritty falsetto that was strong and assertive and yes edgy.

I liked it so much after hearing the preview I actually bought it.

Prince needs keep Janelle close by him

Oh boy do I feel old.. I am over 40, I guess I am too old for this kind of "product".

I don't like modern radio or the music on VH1 either... no...

I can't hear what is so good about this song. Very boring, imho....

Maybe I just can't keep up with what's going on....

I am so much into the old Prince, I am sad to say:

I agree with this review:

What makes ‘Give em what they love’ spectacular is not only the appearance of Prince (by the way, this is the Controversy, Dirty Mind, Sexy MF Prince and not the jut found religion Prince), cool but the fact that Monae isn’t an afterthought once the song has finished. She stands toe to toe with the great Purple one and this prologues the greatness in the album.

I agree with the first part and also with the second

and it was said in the end of the review that janelle is the queen of the new school and he's totally right..no one of her contemporaries R&B artists are even close to her..( and of course he said not even beyonce and rihanna)..

Janelle Monae In Awe At Superstar Pal Prince

by WENN |
Janelle Monae, Rockefeller Plaza, Rockefeller Center

.

Janelle Monae was left stunned by her new duet partner Prince after the superstar entrusted the young soul singer to produce their collaboration without his help.

The Tightrope star teamed up with the Purple Rain icon for the song Givin' 'Em What They Love for her new album, The Electric Lady, and Monae admits she was shocked when perfectionist Prince left her in charge of fine-tuning the track.

She tells the New York Post, "I'm still pinching myself in disbelief. (Prince) doesn't do a lot of collaborations, let alone let people produce him. But he wanted me to be in control of the mixing and mastering and editing. The trust he's given me means a lot."

Don't believe me

Google prince singing telegram and listen to awful arrangement to the lyrics to his singing telegram

Man Prince has completely lost the ability to write and deliver decent lyrics vocally.

When I heard the collaboration And heard what she was saying and then heard his part...I said immediately no way Prince wrote those lyrics

It's actually funny lol

indeed the telegram he sent to Janelle wasn't a lyrical masterpiece..looooool..anyway yes he didn't write this song..he gave her complete control...what matters is that we have an amazing track now wink

about him working with men it doesn'really matters to me.. janelle is a female but she is an amazing talent so...

I am actual a "liberal" and I am only telling my honest opinion: I don't like the 3EG songs, and I don't like the Janelle song either. But of course only socalled positive opinions are welcome here according you.

Prince can make better songs, hopefully. I am looking forward to the "real" album. wink

--------- Are are fucking joking!! It is a singing telegram. Dude it is not that deep and I guess you missed the "Breakdown" because while I love the music on the Janelle track I would not say the lyrics are deep and meaningful which is fine because it is popular music. Most people do not need lyrics that are deep with their music only orgers who have no life.

janelle's album debuted at number 5 in the U.S( her first top 10 album actually top 5 biggrin )..at number 13 or 14 in U.K(she never peaked over number 51 in U.k) and at number 7 in Ireland...waiting for other charts...her being outselled by 2 chainz and the weeknd( who can't sing a note live) shows how much music is fucked up though...but anyway yes top 5 with an R&B album with no guest rappers singing about asses and money! and all staying true to herself without allowing to the industry to control her music...go janelle..I still want more for her though if Bruno Mars can be that huge so she can..she just need more radio airplay..there was an article sayin' they are not givin her regular airplay because they don't know how to market her music since she is a mix of a lot of genres. confused and we know the radios only want basic songs with lyrics written by a 4 years old kid..or they don't want creative black artists usually, especially nowadays..

Didn't Vanity once claim to write/play all their own music?

Don't get me wrong, I think Janelle is badass. I just listened to the album again today, though, and I do wonder how much is Prince-inspired/influenced and how much is just straight up Prince. The keyboards in some places and the guitar everywhere sounds just like him. Definitely not his lyrics (way better, IMO) but he's all over this record. I wonder if he's really all over it and just uncredited. Any thoughts?? And again -- love the album and love Janelle so not trashing her. I just think he's more involved than anyone is acknowledging.

I think he plays keys on Q.U.E.E.N., sounds like him to me.

The guitar on the rest of the album is fantastic but I think Kellindo is just that good.

Any other opinions on this?

I don't think he's involved on other tracks playing instruments...but he was around her a lot during the recording of this record so probably this influenced her sound..
