I declare robertgeorgeakabob the winner!

....jannelle is pushing herself and is taking real care over her production and song writing, not that everything is great but you can feel the intention is there...'sir greendown' is a great example of this.

Prince had his 10 years of brilliance just as stevie did, just as bowie did....but i feel his current output is pretty jaded which is why its almost startling to hear how fresh he sounds on 'give en what they love'....when he's good like this he's still as compelling as ever but he could really do with someone who has a discerning ear when it comes to his own productions.

...having said that i kinda' dug 'that girl thing', i could feel the prince of old in there.

Considering I haven't been blown away by a Prince track for absolute yonks; it's absolutely fantastic! Prince crooning, "I am sharper than a switchblade", and sounding it too.
The whole album is fantabuloutastic. We Were Rock N Roll is the standout for me.
Love, love, love it. smile

His whole verse is pure ego and attitude. His claim to be God's 1st and last is "My Name Is Prince" revisited, but more suave, cocksure and subtle.
Even an off the cuff sneer at the preacher and the teacher.

that was my reaction! they need to work together again..absolutely and by the way am I the only one who think Primetime would have been better with Prince instead of Miguel? sorry but I'm not a great Miguel fan..it seems written perfectly for Prince..even the line about a mysterious man like her.. wink

U right! Eye won't agree! Especially since Prince just had a number one Itune mega hit!!! Just a few days ago "Breakfast Can't Wait"...Plus its just beginning when it hits radio! It made Prince reconsider releasing his fourthcoming blockbuster album...Also

With Prince christening Janelle's new album! Its bound to make another hit 4 him & bring her newly released album to the top of the charts. So it tops a big year 4 Prince even without Janelle...A year Prince PLANNED out HIMSELF!!! prince

Exactly--Kcool is absolutely correct. I guess.

Prince had a number one hit on iTunes (on whichever chart--who cares?)--a number one hit on iTunes is absolutely undeniable evidence of artistic inspiration--clearly showing that the track in question (and thus its creator) is at the top of not just his or her game, but on top of the whole game in its entirety. So, obviously, Kcool can only compare Prince to others at the top of the charts by admitting that they are clearly every bit as talented in their number one weeks as Prince is/was when he tops a chart. And since there's always music at the top of every chart, that means there's always great music, in the same amounts and to the same degree at all times, and we know which music it is because it is right there, at the top of the charts. So that's nice.

Also, is there any phrase more meaningless than "fourthcoming blockbuster album"? (I'll keep Kcool's spelling, just because I actually would like 4 albums--forget the two album rumors. Good or bad, more is more fun.) You can't bust a block until you actually release something. Then you find out what's really what--at least if popularity's what matters, which seems the position Kcool's taking here. I used to love reading the stickers on new LPs, listing 4 or 5 hits--often the marketing dropped completely off after the second or third flop single--4 and 5 wouldn't even be released. Hype isn't a hit--it's just talk.

What on earth does "christening" Electric Lady mean here? Did Prince name it? Smash a bottle of champagne over it? Baptise it? Or perhaps, as George might say, did he just "pee on it"? He made a fine contribution to a good song, but he plays a relatively minor role on Janelle's excellent album. I doubt there's going to be a "hit" coming from it, though. And as for Prince's big year? I'd hoped for more than has happened so far. By Prince standards, it's not big yet--and Prince standards are what we should assume are meant. Heck, until an album actually comes forth, he's behind even Miguel for recent bigness--who's also on a nice Janelle Monae track, coming off of "Adorn" (bigger than Prince's recent commercial blips), and as embarassing as that "#Beautiful" foolishness was, I heard it on my radio (I'm probably more likely to hear "Primetime" than "Givin Em What They Love"). I don't think I'm ever gonna hear "Breakfast Can Wait" playing unless I cue it up (which I will--this isn't about whether I like Prince's stuff, just whether it's a "big year" because of what Kcool's saying).

Look, I'm on the fam side of things--I like most of what Prince does now, and assume that I'll like most of what he does in the future. But I'm only slightly unhinged. I like lots of things that aren't currently changing the world, and probably won't ever do so. That includes 21st century Prince.

yes I think Atlantic chose primetime as the next single..I'm still waiting for the video I saw some previews on tumblr and it's in a club( similar to a strip club) with janelle dressed with a striped black and white dress similar to the one in queen playing a bartender and miguel is her special client..but it was only some seconds I don't know how the rest will be..she's usually great in videoclips..

Didn't like it. Gonna listen to the rest of Electric Lady if it's still available to stream someday in the future. Adore The Archandroid, don't know why I'm only half-interested in this offering. All the fantasy guest spots are usually a telltale sign the album is gonna be whack. And she ditched the pompadour or whatever it was called or didn't she? No bueno. lol

no she still has the pompadour...but in her latest video she had her hair down...I thought the same about the guests being there and after the dance apocalyptic single at first..but the album luckily is really good..not on archandroid level imo but it's a solid good work...I'm listening to it a lot..

I don't like modern radio or the music on VH1 either... no...

I can't hear what is so good about this song. Very boring, imho....

Maybe I just can't keep up with what's going on....

To me any number #1 is a success! Especially from an artist, that is been in the business for almost 30 years! People on this site always says! "Prince will never have a charted single" or" I wish Prince can get another hit on the radio". Well its coming sooner than U think!

a lot of times I agree the new Prince material isn't very exciting..but personally I LOVE this song..

by the way I just saw the R&B singles charts to take a look which single songs from electric lady people are buying more lol and in a lot of countries( except u.s.a) the public seems to be more interested in givin' what they love than primetime( the supposed 3rd single as indicated on the target edition stick)..maybe she should release 2 singles in different countries... lol
