YouTube, "She's Always In My Hair" video from Smukfest in Denmark: official or non-official?

I won't post the link, apparently that is not allowed.

BUT it is allowed to discuss that video, right?

I think the live take from Skanderborg, Smukfest is fantastic.

It makes me believe in Prince again.... great song, and a great live version!!

Fan-tastic..... music worship

ps. I haven't seen the video mentioned elsewhere, except a thread this morning which is gone now.

It's good but, for me, the Montreux pro filmed version is far superior 0 he take's it to a whole new level - by far my favourite track from the current 3rdeyegirl tour - he's having fun, he's playful, his vocals are fantastic - everything works. I'd even go as far as saying it's my favourite live performance of the song I've ever come across cool

er

It's on 3rdEyeGirl, so it must be official. Sure it's good, but saying "it makes me believe in Prince again" is taking it a bit too far. He's an awesome live performer, I never doubted that. But really, 3rdEyeGirl are just another one of his bands and this is just another concert. He's been playing this tune more or less on a regular basis since 1993. But it's still good...

^ I did.. Montreux 2013 was shocking to me.. horrible live performances with those horns.. disbelief

But the 26 minutes clip I have seen from Denmark, Smukfest is just excellent.

Let's Go Crazy Reloaded,

Screwdriver,

She's Always In My Hair,

Did you see the 3rd show at Montreux? It was one of the best I've seen! Watching it back and it was an emotional experience for both Prince and the audience in attendance.

I wish he'd give the song's melody a little bit more attention when singing it. It sounds too sketchy the way he's been performing it.

Well, I'm not sure if the live versions have ever worked that well. The studio version is one of my favourite tracks by him (if not even the favourite).

Again, real horns are much louder in audience recorded bootlegs than they would be in soundboard audio.

To say that Montreux 2013 was bad because you listened to an audience bootleg is just plain retarded.

tonight the stars are out
there's music in the air
the sounds of joy and celebration
are drowning out despair

...not because it's about instrumentation and arrangement,, not just the volume of sound!

Pretty much. You can barely hear the sample during Days Of Wild while the horns are almost overbearing on the current bootleg. Would he still have the same complaint if he had a better source to listen to?

I doubt it. Because it would be properly mixed.

So is Prince's camp gonna be okay with reposting official youtube links? This site should find out!

As I said when I post the link this morning, maybe I'm in a "non prince" moment. I find the performance sad and boring. An old actor trying to pretend to be a old popstar killing a not-so-bad pop-rock song. Requiescat in pacem.

I'm not sure what you mean that he was acting. To me he's doing what he does best, performing and having a good time.. The song started very rockish then he took it down to the funk. He let song breath and had fun with it. its a 10 minute joy ride and I loved it. You just dont see much of that anymore.

But we can agree to disagree. biggrin

The recent influx of youtube videos are great - the band is so full of energy, and they sound great. I'm finally sold on 3rd Eye Girl.

Well, I'm not sure if the live versions have ever worked that well. The studio version is one of my favourite tracks by him (if not even the favourite).

He's always ad libbed a lot of his melody lines live (usually a lot higher), especially where it's really low on the recorded version (like Gett Off)... maybe because he thinks the higher vocal carries it off well and cuts through better.

I agree with you though- sometimes you just want to hear the tune!

Yes...I love the videos but not sure if they are great because of 3rd eye girl...or because of Prince cool

Yeah, you're probably right about that. Sometimes it just sounds like he's circling around the melody and barely hitting the right notes at all. If there would be another person singing the original melody underneath it could work a bit better.

Is that the one where at the end of the call and response he does a call in his regular vocal register and then does that very funky head-bob with matching facial expression?

It's official since it's from the official Prince YT channel. Legally speaking Prince cannot threaten or sue anyone for linking to, or embedding, an official video HE has posted on YT with the embed option active. Actually if he'd try and sue this website for such a thing Ben could sue back and he'd become a rich man because Prince would lose. Not allowing us to post links here is absolute paranoia from the mods lol lol lol

It's not the 1st time. Years ago a thread was closed linking to the official video 4 The Dance Electric, which was available on Yahoo Music, an official website which pays royalties for the videos it streams.

And I'm not even gonna start talking about Shelbey, just reading her name makes the mods feel sick lol
