The Hornheadz thank you!!

For those of you curious, this is another 10 horn arrangement.

One pass with muted brass and woodwinds and the other with a standard 5 peice, mostly playing off of each other but sometimes together. (I had almost forgotten about this tune, glad it came out)

Do you remember when it was recorded?

It was middle of 2012, but that's not necessarily any indication of when he recorded the basics.

I have to say, I like everything about this song, but those horns, sir, they are something else... Absolutely beautiful!

I'm actually surprized that so many seem to dislike it. I'm not in awe about Prince output in recent years. It doesn't hold my attention longer than a view listenings.

But this track has something catchy. I like it a lot. Different folks like different strokes and that on itself never ceases to amaze me.

As I said previously in this thread, so many here missed out on the brilliance of the 'Lotusflow3r' album, but then praise this.

I mean, I like some aspects, like the interplay between the guitar and horns, but this is essentially a demo with demo-like title and unfinished semi-raw vocals.

As I and some others have said, I think he's releasing tracks that were "abandoned" from album projects...

Songs that he's recently released that sound like finished pieces (that should be on an album) are 'Rock & Roll Love Affair', 'Screwdriver', and 'FixUrLifeUp'... the rest sound like throwaways.

Gotta agree with this.

It's a totally enjoyable song. I won't say it's brilliant. But it is no way cringe-inducing (I'm looking at you "Screwdriver").

The instrumental performances and vocal delivery are great. The main area where it could be better is the verses, which don't say much and are a little boring. But the hook is pretty cool, simple, but effective. And the section from 2:31 to 3:28 or so is great.

Great song, laidback -- it "breathes". A lot of Prince songs suffer from being asphixiated in over production. With a few exception, Prince's stuff of late seems to escape that curse. This song could use a bit more structure, but it has the right sound.

'Groovy Potential' is a 4-Star Prince song in my esteemed estimation. It's definitely grown on me, I get it now.

This seems to be one of those, Prince-goes-into-the-studio-at-1AM-by himself-after-hearing-a-groove-in-a-dream type of cut. One of the cuts that he creates, fully solo. The mad scientist in the music lab type cut.

Playing with his friends is cool, but this is the Prince that I really dig....

I agree. Except for the fact that it has a horn section on it.

Well, I have to return the favor and agree with you as well.

The horns are ok, but prevent this song from being even better. Sometimes he uses horns where I would prefer that he used strings or some other innovative sound.

Which is what I miss most with Prince... the innovation. Which is very hard to maintain.

He has a tendency to overuse horns in the last decade and use them in the cheesiest way possible. I think on this track he uses them to great effect by not overdoing it.

At the end of the day, I think the horns are fine and work well, that's why I gave the song '4 stars'. I enjoy this cut more than I have any of his releases since '2010'.

But I should complain less. I really appreciate what Prince brings to the table. A category unto himself, but I digress....

The horns are one of the best things about this track. The breakdown at 2:40 is cool, complete with a classic P high note on vox. Like the way it kicks it up at 3:16...

There's something not right about the way his vox were recorded... kind of thin, light, and not up in the mix. I'm not referring to the effected voice tracks.

Wow at 5:35... now that's tight.

Like I said before, it's a nice breezy track.

Aiight, admit it G7....it's growing on you LOL

Personally, it took a few listens for me to fully 'realize' this cut. But I am slower than the average...

I like this track, and the new Extralovable. They sound easy breezy, and not like they are trying so hard (ala Screwdriver & FULU).

His songwriting is iffy these days, and funky love songs showcase his talents better than generic rock. Hey, I will still buy the 3rdEyeGirl album, though, if U'r reading!

I'm late to the party. lol This song ambles along smoothly and has a very warm sound. I like the finger snaps. While the lyrics are a little predictable, the music has nice mood shifts that feel like a narrative to me and kind of like a living thing, if that makes sense! I'm also curious who's playing what aside from the horns...
