With 662 posts and a membership stretching back to 2003, you would think by now that you would realise General Discussion is the wrong forum for this.

Just sayin'.

I've been wishing for this to happen forEVER. I wonder if P thinks that people wouldn't like this or it's too limited a concept for him or what.

If you can grasp the concept that everything changes, then you should be to accept that people change. Sinners can repent, drug addicts quit drugs and alcoholics can go to AA and stop drinking. I quit smoking cigarettes, my kids grew up and marijuana can be used for recreational use in 2 states. Prince is a musician and like other great musicans he makes changes. We are lucky to bear witness to such a great talent.

The Beatles changed. They started off as a band who played a lot of covers and they evolved into one of the best bands in history. John Lennon used to get pissed at reporters who expected to see a mop top and got a hippie with a brain. They complained but Lennon being Lennon hid in bag and he still made news (SRO).

I take my hat off to Prince and I commend him. He cannot stand still. It seems to me, that he gets bored and needs to do something else. He could if he wanted to, go on a never ending tour and make like a lounge singer and hire a bunch of hired guns in every city. Like Chuck Berry does or used to do. But, Prince is a musician, a perfectionist and he likes to perform live for his FANS! I have seen him many times and he never disappoints. He might not play your favorite obscure Prince song but, HE PLAYS!

No lip synching, NO fake guitar strumming and no FAKE ASS BAND.

Prince HIRES the best MUSICIANS! John Blackwell, Sheila E, MACEO, Fred Wesley, The Doctor, Levi, Michael Bland and the list goes on an on!

Stop, look and listen. Prince is an ICON period. If you like his old stuff, listen to his old cd's. If you want to experience new Prince music, then enjoy the ride.

Would you rate the 3 3rd eye girls or Andy Allo as "best musicians"? I saw Carlos Santana yesterday and while I definitely enjoyed his concerts in Montreux a lot I got reminded once again how cool it would be if Prince would choose his musicians by talent and not gender, age or looks. That's one of the reasons why I loved the horn section in Montreux so much. And I don't get the hate for Shelbey, she's one of my favourite members of his band.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I don't get it either, but I will say that her vocals could use some variation. I wonder if she could sing softly? It appears she has one volume and that is loud. I might add she is a sweet and kind person too.

How do you think we got the Revolution? They weren't the finest musicians on the planet when he found them. He was creating a look and an image. We just got lucky that they sounded good together.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Oh 3rdEyeGirl are sure not the only example, there are loads of others mostly female not exactly talented "artists" he worked with over the years. With The Revolution he created amazing music, that's what I admire about them.

I prefer the third show with 3rdEyeGirl over the first two shows with the horns, and while I wish Shelby nothing but the best with her solo career endeavours and respect her as a talented singer, I think she doesn´t add much to Prince´s band..then again, I never was a big fan of Rosie, either...both are just way too dominant but I can´t blame them because it´s Prince who decides on how much stage time they get. I´d much rather see him with a smaller, basic band.

With the Revolution, he also went for a certain look and ethnic diversity , a bit reminiscent of the Family Stone. And he chose Brownmark over Sonny Thompson even though Sonny went on a diet and lost a lot of weight so he could be a part of the band. ( I love Brownmark´s bass sound though, just saying).I´m not a big fan of 3rdEyeGirl but the do bring some new flavor to his sound and he seems to be genuinely inspired when he plays with them, and remember, Wendy was only 18 when she joined the Revolution and still had a lot to learn, so 3EG are ok as far as I´m concerned.

maybe he can do that solo tour he mentioned in the early 90's----where he would sample all the instruments and plays totally by himself.

I agree that his background singers are usually featured too much IMO, the only one of them I ever really enjoyed was Boni Boyer. I loved the horns in Montreux, their musicianship as well as the fact that at least some of them had great stage personality which is lacking in Prince's current band IMO apart from Shelbey (one of the reasons why I like her more than Rosie who I never really "got") and Hannah, but Hannah's personality only shines when she's not behind the drums IMO. I really enjoyed her on stage for the aftershow after the first show lol .

I loved the interaction Prince had with the horn section in Montreux, it was great to watch, reminded me a bit of the one he had with Sheila E. at the show I saw in Vienna a few years ago. And some of the horn players were better dancers as his chosen dancer who was not chosen by her dancing abilties but because she is gorgeous IMO.

I did not get the impression that Prince was inspired by 3rdEyeGirl when he was on stage I must say. My favourite of the 3 shows was the first one, followed by the 3rd, the second was like a weaker version of the first one for me. What was most outstanding for me was that there was not one single song he did on day 3 that he had played on day 1 or 2.

Yeah Prince did not choose the Revolution only based on their talent either, but that was a totally different stage of his career. I guess I'd just wish he'd put music first now being older and would practice what he preaches concerning all his real music by real musicians talk.

Boni Boyer was my favorite background singer, too. ( I actually mentioned her in my reply above but then changed the sentence and left her out after having second thoughts but yes, she was great and added a lot to the SOTT/Lovesexy shows without being too dominant...but again, it´s Prince who decides if or how dominant a background singer becomes).
