Darling Nikki leans towards blues if anything. The Future nods in the direction of house with it's insistent 4 to the floor beat. The Future is a decent enough tune. The drum beat is cool and it has nice atmosphere. Darling Nikki pisses all over it though. It's nasty, kinky and makes you feel the need to take a shower after listening to it. Prince at his idiosyncratic best. Before he played by the rules! don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed.... | |

I don't think either song is a "funk" jam but both songs are most definitely funky. In regards to if The Future is a good song or not... Hell the f yeah its a good song(IMO). From jump street i thought The future was creative in both music and lyrics and was catchy as heck. Prince was most definitely on some futuristic shit when he came up with them lyrics and them synthesiser parts on that jam. That song had a simple yet profound message and i think its a fairly underrated Prince song. Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon. | |

The Future by far, one of the best of his post L;ovesexy recordings, its cold and even quite morose and the type of Prince apocalypse song we have all grown to love.
Darling Nikki is just a steamy encounter with a oversexed woman, its alright, but apart from a great scream its very average and by far the weakest track on Purple Rain.
So its the future by the long shot, funny how its one of the best songs (Electric Chair and Scandalous may be a bit better) on a bad album, whereas Darlin Nikki is the worst song on one of his very best albums. However if Darling Nikki was on NewPowersoul it would lift that thing up Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name | |
