If it was presented like MJ's "Moonwalker" -- as a series of videos combined by common theme -- I think it would've gone over much better. Trying to make it a movie (and a sequel to Purple Rain) was the kiss of death.

Morris + Jerome = comic genius

music's great

otherwise, movie sucks....

in my not-so-humble opinion, of course.

If you enjoy looking at Prince as much as he enjoys looking at himself...then it's all good. You have to go into it with that frame of mind! lol

That is SO on the money. The film is just fan service for dancing and looking 'cool', and I'll accept it on that level.

I seem to recall this was played at one of those alternative cinemas in Edinburgh at the time of it's release. I remember being gutted that I had missed it... until I did see it. I was quite disappointed. I think I have only ever watched it all the way through maybe 3, 4 times, in fact the dvd I bought years ago to replace the VHS must have only been played once. lol

I usually can find SOME redeeming qualities in most of Prince's projects. The one and only thing in this is the Elephants and Flowers performance. That is it. I have yet to make it through the whole movie. A complete mess of a film and waste of talent.

I was unemployed when it came out. I bought a ticket, thinking it would be a nice little diversion from my cares and woes.

As I slurped my ramen noodles for the next week (all I could afford to eat), I was so pissed off that I had blown that money.

I keep forgetting it was in there and on the soundtrack. I added The Ball and Joy on my homemade version of Crystal Ball years ago where it belongs. I don't like that Joy was anywhere near GB

The whole disaster can be attributed to the Kid not letting TC Ellis rap earlier in the picture.

Trying to recreate the who city of Minneapolis on a soundstage didn't help.

And as nice as it was for Prince to let a group of third graders build and design the actual bridge in the movie, it was just hard to take it seriously upon actual inspection.

And even though I give props to Prince for beating "The Sixth Sense" to the punch by having the female love interest actually be a ghost, it just didn't come together in the end. Wait, she was an angel? Since she did not have visible wings where did the feather come from? And did the drivers of the jeep get charged with anything or is killing an angel okay as long as it for the redemtion of the main character? And I bet that poetry that she wrote is worth something, I mean since it was written by an angel an all.

Also, would it have killed P to bring back the Modernaires for a reunion scene?

All good things they say never last...

I agree. This should have been released as a home video companion piece to the album.

I saw this at the movie theater. During the scene where Morris et. al. accost Prince onstage, I accidentally yelled "Don't you touch that guitar!" when one of The Time picked up (and then dropped) the Hohner.

After the movie, this dude comes up to me, introduces himself, and said, "I knew when you yelled at the screen about touching the Hohner that you were cool".

That guy is still my best friend today!

if Madge was in it it would have gotten a thousand times more publicity which would not have been a good thing

as it was...this just very quietly slipped straight to video..and was allowed to die a peaceful and quick death

I just thought of something else that would have made the movie better. After beating The Time's ass with "Still Would Stand All Time" (?!?) the Kid should have looked up in the sky and seen the smiling figures of Aura, his father, and Billy staring down at him. Would have given the movie a "Jedi" feel.
