It wasn't Vernon's guitar Prince broke. Prince borrowed a guitar from Kirk Douglas who is the guitarist for Jimmy Fallon's late night show with The Roots. Prince could have said "no comment". My only guess is that Prince interpreted the interviewer's word "throw" and tried to skirt the question by using semantics.

His response read like a denial of sorts to me also, but you are right, a simple "no comment" would have sufficed.

I think that I read once that his dad came from Louisiana. If that's true, then Prince and I have something in common.
