3 months ago, I was very optimistic. After the intervening shenanigans, I can honestly say that he has managed to make me not care one way or the other for the first time ever.

I believe that he will release an album this year.

I have only the very mildest interest in it, and I do not think Prince will dissapoint me, becuase my expectations are set so low, that even if it mildly sucks, it will have exceeded my expectations.

I fully believe the album will be lackluster, boring, and either seem desperate or sound dissengaged.

Prince's behavior and neglect of his 3rdeyegirl website has caused me to not really give two shits about the album anyways. Only the deep rooted completist in me will make any attempt to get a copy of it from a friend or something, but I doubt I'll enjoy it. It'll be like 20ten--something I haven't listenned to since the week it was released, and listened to with only the mildest interest at that.

I really find Prince interesting now because of how much he's become everything I find dull and unintersting. For an artist as amazing as he once was to accomplish going from that to a self-parodying elderly man-boy is pure gold to me. That I find interesting as hell.

i do think that a fair number on this site are very hard on prince...the guy has released probably more great and innovative music that almost anyone alive...he is still a superb live act and a musician very few can equal....how much great music can one person have inside them ?...yes his music isnt as good but very few acts continue to make great music throughout a long career....

does stevie wonder or bowie get the flack that prince gets from his fans ?...i doubt it very much...stevie is seen as a music great regardless of what he releases now....the same with bowie.. (and yes bowie has released his fair share of bad music and his new album is good in parts but not as great as its made out)..i still think prince releases good music but not as much as his heyday in the 80s but thats to be expected...

if we are talking about him being a control freak in everything he does then that just seems to be part of his character..he has always been the same and i dont see it changing any time soon...it certainly causes frustration with his fans but was part of what gave him the drive to become huge in the 80s..

i am just thankful he is still with us...his music has meant a great deal to me and still continues to mean a lot to me..his back catalogue really is something to behold..you could spend days listening to it and who knows what else he has locked in the vault ...

i am looking forward to the new album...do i expect it to be great ?...no...but i do expect to hear something on it that i will love...

When I heard the stuff from the 3rdEyeGirl site and youtube page, and the snippets of "Love," "The Breakdown," "Ain't Gon' Miss U," and "2Y2D," I was kind of excited. Things at least seemed promising. But I'm kind of meh about the current direction.

I like that he's inspired again by rock music but I don't really like the original stuff he's doing with 3rdEyeGirl. If he made a rock album with them as his backing band, and really put together an album of great rock songs featuring him only on vocals I would be all for it. I'm not interested in 3rdEyeGirl feat. Prince at all.

I also have to say I've been mostly unmoved by his TV appearances as well. Partially because I think he looks ridiculous in his current incarnation, but mostly because other than She's Always In My Hair, I've yet to hear a truly great moment with that band.

i'm really enjoying 2013 so far! love that prince is going in a new direction, (loved his old directions too), thrilled to see him so playful, happy and experimental in concert.

i've downloaded most all of the 3rdeyegirl releases and listen to those whenever i need a dose of energy. i sincerely hope prince does whatever makes him smile, because in the end we all benefit when he is having fun

an album of 3rdeyegirl stuff would rock but either way i'm loving 2013!!

This has been said again and again - I've said it myself. Yes, it's unrealistic to expect an artist to constitently release outstanding music after such a length of time. But that doesn't mean if an album is shit I'm going to say "oh, well what can you expect! He's old, give him a break, he had a good run!" - No, I'm going to say it's shit regardless. We're coming from the same POV, it's just a difference in delivery.

Dunno what to think.

The websites are now unmaintained for weeks.

The stream of music snippets, songs, etc has stopped for now.

The LOL try out tour has ended.

So what now?

There's no info, no hint, nothing.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I spoke with Prince yesterday afternoon, and he told me to tell you that he is sorry for everything he did to/for/with you.

Now that we have that settled, can you move on? TIA.

I was a bit optimistic until I heard that it will be a 3rdeyegirl feat Prince album. I still think Prince will be the lead singer on most of the songs but Im prepared 4 a big letdown. He should release a trippel album since we've been waiting 3 years now 4 a new album. As 4 the website, I knew it wouldn't last that long and I will never get excited about a new site from Prince again. Its obvious that he will never create another npgmusicclub. He will stick 2 those lame crapy sites like Lotusflow3r.com and 3rdEyeGirl.com

er

Not a lot of enthousiasm then. I agree with what Blackbob was saying, but how many times can you tell yourself that when you just don't like a new album as much as the old ones? It's Prince himself who set the standards so high.

agreed, on all of it smile except, i do like the live performances with this band.

they're nothing truly spectacular or anything but they're nice enough.

the last thing i want this year is a 3rd Eye Girl feat Prince album if that's all

we get.

if there will be a full on Prince album before or after that, then i guess i'm

ok with a 3rd Eye Girl album as an extra.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think I've officially given up hope that I will ever fall in love with his music, like I used to. Maybe I've changed, maybe the industry has changed, maybe it's all on Prince. IDK but put me down for ambivalent.

Co-sign. I like the heavy emphasis on the stripped down, riff heavy rock sound and how the guitars are out in front a lot. The band is not the greatest but somehow they work. Probably because they have Prince as the glue to hold all the looseness, missed notes and mistiming together and alos because somehow the songwriting has really improved after the all time low of Planet Earth, which was just meandering and dull.

I also like the re-empasis on visual elements after the suit and tie dullness of the ONA years and the "Prince as Vegas act" productions that were a staple for a while. The 3rd Eye stuff sounds like a garage band and I think it's been great so far. There really hasn't been a clunker in the mix and I'm happy not see the piano and the falsetto taking center stage for a change.

I'm still optimistic--I'm disappointed that we stopped getting new studio tracks through the 3rdeyegirl accounts and the website (nothing ever really happened at the Prince one, so it's kind of like it never existed). I liked that "ooh something new?" feeling, and for the most part I liked the songs. "L.O.L." worried me a little--I like the band as a performing unit, and Prince seems to be re-energized by playing with them (from recordings and the TV appearances, I haven't been in an audience personally), but I'm not overjoyed by the idea of a 3rd Eye Girl album. Prince and Third Eye Girl--that sounds fine, and I think they could bash out something pretty good if he could come up with the right songs. I don't really want to hear another protege album right now. And I loved the Andy album (and I'm pretty sure he was way more involved than the official credits indicate). I'm just ready to hear a new PRINCE album.

Unlike a lot of you, however, I've liked (at least) almost all of the albums; while I feel there's a larger number of "okay" tracks than there were at his height, most are still "good" and very few strike me as "bad." He hasn't seem inspired or even interested much of the time, and often it seems he just didn't finish a track--he just had an idea, and maybe it could have been better, but--ehhh, it's good enough. So, I expect if something does come this year, I'll like it. I would be surprised if I loved it.

I hope the Kobalt deal gives him whatever it is he wants in order to get material in full, fairly normal release, without any games. Then all we have to talk about is the music, however we feel about it.

Still optimistic. Love all the stuff from 3rdeyegirl.com. Some are wondering about the site, but it was just a test model for (the KOBALT deal) something much bigger and better...coming soon.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.
