Does anyone know exactly who will be in the band for these upcoming shows?

I"Love" rock and i "Love" when Prince gets Funky but, from what i have seen and heard the only member of his new 3rd eye girl band that seems to be able to seriously get into any Funk is, Ida Neilsen so,

Is the new all girl band it? or will people that expect some above average Funk at a Prince show just be forgotten on this tour and instead bombarded with rudimentary rock tunes like Rock and Roll Love Affair & Screwdriver?

You want the same old set list that you've gotten mostly in the last 7 years?

He needs to do some breaking away stuff, because it feels like a rut

I also think Prince might be doing 2 types of shows, 1 with the 3 members, and 1 with a 22member band

No i don't wan't the same kind of set.. but, I also think a lot of musicians of Prince's Age, Talents and Importance to the evolution of music wouldn't be caught dead with the 3rd eye girl band 25 years after having a band with Shelia E on drums, Dr Fink on keyboards, Miko Weaver on 2nd Guitar, Eric Leeds on Sax ect.. I'm not putting anyone down or wanting the same old arena shows that we have been seeing for ages, I'm just surprized that people would actually pay the kind of money he's asking for to see a couple of Great musicians with a couple of not very special ones that don't add anything that he couldn't do himself effortlessly!.

I think Emperor has made a good point. This 3rd (etc.) band doesn't look like the most funky Prince ever had and what's a Prince concert without the funk? If he's going to concentrate on rock, then his repertoire is going to be pretty limited. Dreamer... Bambi...so what else is new... Besides, I think it's unrealistic to expect an old legend like Prince to play only new material-especially if there's no new album!
Bob Dylan plays his new songs live, but he too does Like a Rolling Stone and All Along the Watchtower every night.

I don't think he's doing two shows with two bands. The 22 piece band wouldn't fit on the DNA SF Stage & its being billed as 3rd eye girl tour ala the poster.

I'm going to the late tuesday show so I'll be pissed if it's not a rock show.

Agreed, I of course have no right to tell Prince what to do but, I'm not too sure that the 3rd eye concept is worth promoting as much as he's promoting it, (IMO) I'd rathger see him play in a power trio with two other musicians that can push him ie:Sonny T & Michael B. if he want's to go all Jimi on us, why not take it all the way instead of hiring some girls that are more a cute gimmick than exceptional Prince level musicians?

I've always said he should get the best mix of the Revolution with the SOTT band. Have horns on songs that really need horns, and have guitar on songs that really need guitar. Play Let's Go Crazy with two guitar parts going at once with no saxophones, no Go Go Go crap...just play the song...maybe get Vernon Reid as the other guitar player, and have Wendy for acoustic and light rhythm guitar.

No medleys, no remakes, just play songs in full with full lyrics. Maybe an instrumental set in the middle to give the Purple guy some rest....

Keys: Matt Fink, Lisa Coleman, Tommy B

Guitar: Vernon Reid, Wendy Melvoin

Drums: John Blackwell, Sheila E

Bass: Sonny T

Horns: Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss, Greg Boyer

That would be my dream. But in reality...3rd Eye Girl Band is not all that bad. There's no Shelby shouting at the top of her lungs for us to put our hands up, or to stomp our feet as a ridiculous crowd flunky. At least the show is something a serious musician can appreciate.

Not sure why Prince wants Donna to play Bambi so out of tune, but the band sounds raw and sloppy, but still sounds good. That's the bottom line. Much better than the stale Welcome 2 Shows which were really a very watered down version of the Musicology tour...sucking the life out of that show with a shadow of what it was....but with a few wonderful moments...but inconsistent with the crazy lunacy of Shelby....a great singer being forced to look like an idiot.

So you heard it here first....I am once again satisfied with Prince's live show...for the most part anyway.

Uhhh...the tour is yet to begin! All we are saying is speculation anyway. But your dream band sounds pretty good.

Honestly, I was just trying to find out if anyone knows what to expect from this tour.. I personally would prefer another Welcome to America tour situation over a back to basics rock show with the 3rd eye girl band.

..If the material was Dirty Mind level stuff then sure, but, I'll take the hits (minus the shelby vibe) over the Screwdriver/Rock and Roll Love Affair vibe any day of the week.

It's prince at the end if the day we all want to see, and it's a small venue. These opportunities are few & far between these days. I don't care if its the muppets backing him up. Animal kills it on the drums IMO .

I'd bloody love to see Prince and 3rdeyegirl in a smallish venue. I think it would be great and a welcome change up.

You guys heard some of the Dakota recordings? They were bloody great. That's if my presumption is right, that the four of them played the show with Endorhinemachine as the opener? It was bloody great!

I hear you, I guess i get a bit bothered with the thought of musicians backing up Prince that aren't on his level musically.
