On that note, shouldn't all 3rdeyegirl and prince2013 website stuff be "Past, Present, Future Websites"?

Song sounds, very poppy, more for a younger crowd, something you'd probably hear on the radio.

I guess the next album is 3rd Eye Girl, not Prince...

Just reminds me of kindda collaboration No Doubt/Prince...Really dig the rock/pop/reggae combination!

Reggae? Sorry but I don't see where there is any reggae in that track at all. It's mostly pop/rock.

3rdEyeGirl is Prince Music

Boni Boyer led the unreleased 1988 song the Line. if someone wanted to talk about that song we wouldn't put it in the Associates Artists section, because it's Prince. (We don't know if that would be a song released led by Prince)

same with Our Destiny, the studio (unreleased) is led by Lisa Coleman (she prob wrote it) but Prince led it live on his 6.7.1984 show. That would still be a (Prince & the Revolution) topic

Wendy led I Wonder U, just because someone in a current band leads a song wouldn't make it an Associate Artist topic

we don't know yet what this song is until it's available for download, it's obviously a Prince piece, this is not a protege project(unless someone knows something else), this is Prince and his 3rd Eye Girl band, you can hear Prince singing in the chorus. If we find out Prince had nothing to do with this song, it could be moved to the Associate Artist section definately

[url]http://prince.org/msg/7/393649[\url]

#4 Hannah Ford, Donna Grantis, & Ida Nielson are in the studio everyday recording new material with PRINCE. He is the primary songwriter but not the primary guitarist. PRINCE is every day gaining more confidence in Donna's talent and actually lets her take a bulk of the solos on the project. They have recorded about 14 songs and "Live Out Loud" will be released as soon as the promotional clip for it is finished. Check 3rdEyeGirl.com soon for that.

But yes there are are a few threads that are directly about the website(s) that will be moved... Thanks 4 the reminder

Wow.

The people who are comparing this to "current" music ... maybe it sounds like the current Top 40 type pop junk. I wouldn't know, because I can't stomach that stuff.

But I see a lot of people saying that this sounds like a "hip" alternative-type ban. An orger I respect even mentioned Liz Phair?! I'm trying to keep it together but holy fuck that could not be more off the mark. Granted, Liz sold out years ago and totally sucks now but in her prime she was killer. And she could sing. And she had incredibly smart lyrics - none of which are featured on this jingle.

This sounds like the b-side to the "Menards" jingle Prince put out a couple years ago...except I muich prefer "Hot Summer."

The voice on this is grating. Intensely. Makes my teeth hurt. This chick can't sing. Listen to Regina Spektor if you want to hear a pop singer who can SING.

This gets filed under songs that I would be embarrassed to let my friends know Prince was involved with.

But I'm glad many of you seem to like it. but your comparisons to music that I listen to confirms that many of you listen to nothing but Prince and maybe the occasional D'Angelo track (not dissing D'Angelo, mind you, he's great).

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

C'mon man, really? There is nothing even close to indie about this. This is just simply bad pop, period.

I'm curious: what makes you think it sounds indie?

definitely into it... princey is batting nearly 1000 with me in this era...

catchy, like the idea ... LOVE her voice...

do i wish it was prince singing.. of course,, but same could be said for Love thy will be done, manic monday, sugar walls, ooo this i need, 101...... still love those songs

there is probably going to be so much coming at us, that we will have more than enough with P on vox.

love this girl group...

keep up the good work, P...

like the idea of living out loud.. freedom etc...

love that the JW stuff seems to be out of the picture....at least out of the foreground, its just nice to not have all that subtext in there to sift thru.. these are just good pop songs.. which is great.

LOL really isn't very good.

The song is really ploddy, like a more boring version of R'n'R Affair, and unfortunately her voice isn't good or distinctive enough to lift the song any higher.

Shame.

I'm curious: what makes you think it sounds indie?

Well, we could go on about arguing about how to "correctly" define "indie". I could then ask you how you define "pop" and find a thousand ways to negate your opinion...

In popular culture, there seems to be a common denominator about "indie music" (and is nowadays often associated with bands such as The Killers):

It has a certain "raw" feel (arrangement and recording-wise), a certain "euphoric" feel when it comes to chord structure (often created via quick changes between full major chords and melodies including the major 7th and quick changes between full major chords and sus2 and sus4 chords), and a driving, powerful, rhythmically direct delivery of the rhythm guitar (often created via playing straight 8th notes).

Live Out Loud includes all of this (lack of many overdubs, very few plug-ins on the instrumental track, and the chorus perfectly embodies my second and third example.

Hope I could cure your curiosity!

I like it a lot partly due to how it doesnt really "sound" like Prince, even if its plastic pop or whatever yall say it is. Not that I dont like Prince music but its nice to see some collab that doesnt sound exactly like him and his production...basically his song with others singing over him. The lack of that makes this one sound refreshing imo.

Yeah, I actually believe that the girls wrote this track (while they were jamming/rehearsing) and played it to him. He then added the intro noise and backing vocals, but not much more I reckon (maybe the coda, that one short, slightly "quirky" melody line is very much "new" Prince). The rest is absolutely not Prince, to my ears.

Remember when "Hot Summer" came out and many argued it sounds like a song that should've gone to a Bangles or girl pop group? Maybe if this band was around back then, they would've recorded it?

Also, are people complaining about DOWNLOADING A FREE SONG?

That free air man is like, evil! People aren't happy until they get a free download on a free CD. Or a free Vinyl.

Just becasue its free doesnt mean folks HAVE to like it or not have an opinion about it.

Same here, that sharp tone gives me headache lol it's sad that Prince isn't the lead singer cuz that would make this song sound a lil bit better, unfortunately he chose not 2 so therefore I give it 2/5

My thoughts exactly. Like a tourism ad or something. "Come and visit New Zealand and live out loud!"

...or a tampon ad - cue splashing about at the beach, horseriding and fooling around with your best friends.

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

Thanks to 3rdeyegirl for sharing the music FREE.

Great stuff Jester, enjoy this moment. highfive

Merci Rad for the 0's and 1's. wave

Really love the Rock Bitch vocal ( genre not the band ie.Gwen Stefani, Shirley Manson, Skin) sounds really strong, the song is OK has a positive message, though these 2 issues, have me WTF?

Sly said:

The lyrics are a bit patchy and the breakdown with.. "Don't let nobody get you down" sounds quite cheesy, but on the whole a really fun and catchy pop song.

I can ignore the lyrics, but in this case the line clashes with the music, rather than complementing it. The breakdown (2:08-2:11) is jarring and harsh, it doesn't work for me, that whole line could have been leFt out not so much for cheesiness, but for continuity.

rdhull said:

I think it is perfect without him on it..hell, his background vox on it is jarring and doesnt really fit

Yeah, agree the first part of the song, not so bad as the Prince backing vox are minimal (except "fire" ) , but after the breakdown there are more backing vox parts and it seems the volume is louder on them too, by design, mixing issue, or I'm just hearing things?

Again really thankful for the share and all the new music since Christmas, but as I reason with everybody else, it's my turn to take my own advice.

Many people do use the term "indie" to describe a genre, so technically you're wrong, it has become a genre.

Terms and definitions evolve, depending on how they are used. The term "pop" also has a hundred different meanings and has undergone loads of semantic changes.
