None of the songs you mentioned would be considered cerebral unless you mean cerebral palsy. Prince is cerebral in comparison to a lot of pop folks, but if his lyrics shouldn't make you feel like you just got some brain exercise.

I beg to differ. It's not about going through a brain exercise. It's about layering of a story, figurative language, characterization, encoding, etc.

I don't consider Dorothy Parker and Condition of the Heart on-the-nose creations. There is a quirky, unique world created, there's subtext and there's stuff for us to decipher. It took more intellect and reflection to craft those songs than Boyfriend.

Prince has created more cerebral songs, certainly, but these are thinking man's songs that took skill and a certain elevated flair to create. They aren't one-dimensional like the song at the center of this thread.

I love this. This is my favorite of the recent songs. It's all about the horns and the bass.

I feel it would have fitted well on 3121, the horn lines have a slight latin tinge.

I hear you but screwdriver and screwdriver remix are different enough. Same with rnr affair and remix 7. I've already had $.88 value from boyfriend demo, so if an alternate appears I'll lap it up.

I like the track but prefer BCW over this one. The only two new females Prince has introduced to us is the dancer Lala and Stella blu or what ever her name is. So does any one know if they have boyfriends? I didn't see that this was about someone choosing money over love and if Prince is tolerating another dude he must be whooped.
