* SCREWDRIVER! (Remix) ~Prince/3rd EYE Girl

Like "Breakfast Can Wait," a thread just for this newly released Remix of his latest single.

Mods, make a sticky for this too please.

I haven't heard this Remix yet (I'll wait until later this week to buy it. From the website thread, I was lucky apparently to download just one song. Let the mania calm down, you know?)

But those that have heard it, what are your thoughts? How does it compare to the single? Better, worse, or par?

Easily on par with the single. It's not a "remix" - it's more of an alternate recording of the track. Think "Witness #1," "Witness #2," "Witness #3."

I bought all four tracks a few hours ago and had no problems, btw.

I bought all tracks a while ago too and didn't have anyproblems either.

I loved the single but this version easily surpasses it for me. It's longer for starters, and I love the heavier sound it has.

Sorry I just called it what Prince calls it. Again I've not heard it yet.

I wonder why "Same Page Differenet Book" and "Laydown Extended" aren't on sale yet?

nit-picking, but Witness #1 & #2 are the same original recording. geek

This is the definitive version.

Love it. Don't really get why it's tagged as a remix, it's more an extended version.

Yes this version rocks the hell out. Reminds me of C&D.

There are synthetic sounds on it that are a little dorky but it still rocks out.

it's ok until it gets to the 'part 2' extended bit and those techno sounds come in - but then it gets better towards end.

kinda reminds of a 12" Extended Mix from the early 90s.

Didn't mean to imply that you were referring to the song incorrectly. It is indeed titled "remix." My point for someone who had heard the original single but not the "remix" version was just that it's not a remix but a completely different studio recording.

Earlier I likened it to how the alternate versions of "Witness" compare to one another. After another listen, I'd compare it to how the album version of "Somebody's Somebody" relates to to the "livestudio" mix.

This remix shows how creative Prince can be. He can turn an already amazing track in2 a more funner version. Takes ur listening ears on a journey that travels into places u never thought he can go... Its a classic remixed.

it's a pretty dang good song and defiitely better than the original. the vocals are better. the music rocks harder. the signature guitar line appears several times. the tone on the guitar is really good, nice and chunky on the chords and full sound on the solos.

the only thing that bugged me initially is that the title & chorus are a bit screwball (pun intended). but i'm over that now. it's prince music, so it's bound to be a little out there. and this is basically a fun track to have around the house and maybe play with friends. i doubt it'll be a radio hit or anything, which is totally fine.

i wonder if he has another meaning in mind for "i'm your driver and you're my screw" than the obvious sexual one. i think there's something else, but i can't figure it out.

I quite liked the original but for me this is far far superior. I find the beginning of the original a bit clunky and weak. This kicks straight into that simple but really addictive riff. For me the song has gone from a 5.5/10 to 8/10. Excellent.

I love it, especially with the intro line (I'm your driver, you're my screw) he used on the rehearsal clip but if I had to choose one I'd go for the original.

these recent releases are already better than 2010
I like it that he's getting better feedback here. maybe there's hope for prince.org yet.

I haven't heard any of the 2 very new releases yet but I guess I will soon enough.
I'd prefer a regular album made available the conventional way.
But just wupeedoo for the new stuff!

I thought the same thing at first, but after a few listens, and comparing it to the regular version (which I also have as a download - iTunes for that one), I don't think it's the quality of the file.

I think it's the mix of the song. It's more raw and less polished. It isn't the bitrate, I think it's the mix. It's mixed in a much more raw way without the same compression and hotness applied to the standard version.

I love this version! I've been aching for a raw recording of Screwdriver right from the start and I'm amazed Prince did provide two versions.

I never thought I'd pay for an mp3-file only, but this is still worth the 88 cents.

Well done, Prince.
