My Prince Music Collection

Hey guys, I was looking for some advice or suggestions to add to My Prince collection. I have every studio album except for you, exodus, goldnigga, one night alone( not the live box set which i have), c note, xpectation, slaughterhouse, chocolate invasion, and 20ten(which ive listened to most of). I recently just ordered New Power soul and Chaos and disorder from amazon. Also, im planning on buying crystal ball. Am i missing something? is there anymore out there i should search? wat about good ep and remixes. Already have the gett off, rnr love afffair, and beautiful expirience(don't own but listened to). Also, which of the above albums aren't worth wasting my money on haha. Thanks guys!!!!!

I would get For You if I were you. It's a great album actually. The vocals on it are tight and the songs are polished and catchy. Actually, the song Baby is kinda a precursor to Eye Hate U in my opinion as the melodies are really similar. It's a good happy album overall. I got Exodus after hearing people talk about how funky it is and it was alright. It's a good party album with songs like Big Fun, Get Wild, and Return Of The Bump Squad, but the segues (with the exception of like one or two of them) were really annoying and broke up the flow of the album. I really liked C-Note too, and in my opinion, that's worth getting for Empty Room alone. One Night Alone's also a nice album to listen to, though I don't come back to it too often except for Have A Heart. The Letitgo maxi-single is pretty cool (the Sherm Stick Edit is amazing) and the Space Maxi-Single sounds great (I don't have it, but I've heard parts of it online and really liked it). Slaughter House and Chocolate Invasion are pretty cool in my opinion and have some great songs on them, but I honestly don't think they're like must have Prince albums or anything [Snip - luv4u]

Overall, I would recommend For You. It's probably the easiest to find a physical copy of (I found a used copy for about 3 bucks in my local music store and a new copy for not that much more). Plus it's cool to hear Prince doing a sorta disco album.

RRA

Agree on FY, at the least because it was his debut album.

Plus "Soft & Wet" rocks. Of course that was the single, duh when you hear it. The demo version I once heard online was even better, before (I guess) Prince tinkered it to death. (Wouldn't be the last time either.)

er

Actually everything that makes Prince Prince was already there on For You. He just needed to develop it more.
Exodus is spoiled by those stupid segues that take up almost 15 minutes of this 1 hour long record. The Exodus Has Begun is Prince doing P-funk (it even features the George Clinton quote "all that is good is nasty"). Nothing new or original, but it swings like hell! The NPG band is in top shape on this one. It's the one brilliant track that saves the record from being a total waste of studio & listening time.
Be sure to get Crystal Ball! Some excellent songs on there!

First off, Batman was brilliant. Screw the movie tie-in. "The Future" (with it's little "Hello"-isms), "Lemon Crush", "Electric Chair", "Partyman"...even "200 Balloons" was good. I read an old review of The Hits/The B-Sides last night that called "200 Balloons" a 'blatant ripoff of "Batdance"...' ohgoon

Crystal Ball is fantastic. A good mix of outtakes old and "new". I really like "Interactive" and the remixes of "Love Sign" and "The Continental". I've got the version with "The Truth" in it as well which is a really interesting listen. Prince Unplugged. "Don't Play Me" is my favorite there.

For You is the last WB title I need on CD as well so I vote we both buy that one next, lol. I love the largely forgotten "Just As Long As We're Together/In Love" single.

I really liked Chaos And Disorder ("Had U", "I Like It There") and New Power Soul has some good moments, the best of which is the hidden track "Wasted Kisses". I also dig "Freaks On This Side".

I may be in the minority --and you've heard it so you no doubt have your own opinion of it-- but 20ten is my favorite start-to-finish Prince album since Come. Still can't believe it was a newspaper giveaway and didn't even see a stateside release.

what's the matter with your life?

My problem is that 20ten Is Dirty mind without the dirty haha. He tries to go back to his old pop synth sound and i didn't really dig it this time. The ballads and soft songs are phennomenal and some of his best. Come's got Come, letigo, space is alright, race, and pherome. It's a good album but to me not better than 3121 or TRC. better than musicology slightly.

Get all of them.. you never know what you'll like. Most people consider C&D and NPS as two of his worst, but they're two of my favorites. You should get all of his albums, but I agree that you should get For You next, and just do them in chronological order, or get whichever ones are cheapest.

I couldn't agree with you more. I actually think it's one of my favorite albums of his. The songs aren't overproduced (with the exception of Batdance which is a beautifully and maticulously crafted collage of samples) and they are all unique and catchy. In fact, Batman might be the second on my list of albums I want to have remastered (Sign O The Times is the obvious choice for what I want remastered first.)

Here's a status update. I decided to go back and listen to Prince ,1999.Controversy because i realized there were some tracks i totally missed or never listened to. When you were mine was one of them and man is that an epic solo. Then went back and listened to like my new favorite prince songs something in the water does not compute and lady cab driver which blew me away. Controversy is allright listed to annie christine and ronnie russia two songs i realy wasn't familiar with and didn't overally dig either of them. Now my problem is around the world in a day. I love songs like pop life, america, raspberrhy beret but the rest of the album seems lackluster so im gonna give it another listen. same with parade which i dig kiss, anotherwateverhead, sometimes it snows in april, mountains is alright , and girls and boys. After that the album really isn['t much. Last relisten im gonna do for now is the side of sign o' the times with ballad of dorthy parker , slow love, and it which i rarely listen to. Oh and Newpowersoul just came in the mail yay smile. basically im gonna let prince take up the next 3 months of music till i can finally say im done.

Make sure you get 'Space (Universal Love Remix)'

A classic. One of my favourite Prince songs. You'll find it on the Space EP
