This does have the machinations of a great concert event. However, as much as I woulds love to see Prince attend at the Carnegie Hall tribute, I doubt he will show up, considering he's not going to be in control of the bookings, and Prince's disdain for swearing and his more sexually explicit songs will be performed.

On the other hand, maybe the concert will be all the better having a musical director interpretting their versions of his songs. I love the Roots, but damn, does Questlove gotta be in every thing related to a Prince tribute?

This could be Really Good. Or Really Bad. I hope they get some amazing performers that will do his catalog justice.

I agree with you 100% Here, they need to get good singers...

I swear, I don't want to see Rihanna performing Darling nikki, Justin Bieber Performing Purple Rain Or Nicki Minaj performing Sign O' The times... Please neutral

If they get good singers I can tell It's going to be good, otherwise It'll be a disaster...

I also see that the carnegieprince.com website now listed those artists on their site. Will be interesting to see who else will be performing. I'm glad 'Living Colour' is part of the program because I'm sure they will be able to deliver some of Prince's rock tracks.

Of course, most of the articles are reporting the same thing, but I had a little giggle at Spin Magazine's article heading though, and the end of their article....

Prince Will Let Other People Perform His Music at Carnegie Hall Concert for Charity

The Roots to lead music education fundraiser on March 7

The Roots, Talib Kweli, Living Colour, and more will pay tribute to Prince for an annual benefit concert at Carnegie Hall on March 7, the New York Times reports.

For the ninth edition of the yearly series, which has previously raised more than $700,000 to support music education for underpriveleged children, selections from Prince's song catalog will be covered and reinterpreted by more than 20 artists, including also Madeleine Peyroux, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Booker T., DeVotchka, and Mike Scott of the Waterboys.....

(Edited for compliance)

........No word yet on whether Prince will help his disciples funk through a few tunes, like in 2009 when then-honorees R.E.M. teamed up with Patti Smith, but the former Revolution leader is already more supportive of this tribute than the nixed Le Petit Prince project. Just remember, audience members: Prince takes the whole "no cell phone" thing really seriously.

Truthfully I am just glad some men are finally doing his songs.... It's tiring to see only women doing these tributes

My fears are eased. This will be awesome, and Questlove knows his shit. I trust him implicitly, especially after someone mentioned how great his 1999 tribute was. Got my tickets, see some of you guys there.

Yep!

There is a small 20 second clip of this with Prince rocking out and bobbing his head out there. Very easy to find.

"It's tiring to see only women doing these tributes"? I would take a bevy of women singing Prince songs as long as they were good.

Over the years I've seen on award shows people like Patti Labell/ Alicia keys and so on sing his songs and in the end I would rather have Prince perform them instead.

Yes it's a great line-up! Musicians who aren't afraid to give their interpretations of the songs so it's not like karaoke/covers. And with Questlove directing, it promises to be as great as the 1999 Tribute he & Living Colour's Vernon Reid did at the Brooklyn Academy of Music back in December '99.

The cheap balcony seats (and most other general seating) for this show is now on sale! I just got two side balcony seats for $48 each (plus $6 in fees). Website to order from Carnegie Hall is here:

https://www.carnegiehall.org/SiteCode/Purchase/SYOS/SeatSelection.aspx?startWorkflow=true&quickBuy=false&quantity=0&eventId=18736

(A few days ago, it looked like only VIP packages were for sale)

Hmm, they're entertaining enough, but a bit too karaoke-ish than I was hoping this tribute would be.

I've never seen them perform. Just saw a clip someone posted of them a while back. Will be interesting to see how they pull their act off at the tribute.

Good for you... I want to see artist like Maxwell, Dangelo, Lenny K, Van Hunt, Incubus, and Green Day

I don't have anything against people like Alicia Keys, Jannell Monae, or even Patti Label.... But what I am saying is clearly a ton of male singers and musicians love him and are influenced by him. Yet they are never asked to perform his songs. Thankfully Prince has nothing to do with this set list or lineup of performers.

?uestlove will get it right
