Annie Christian: Yea or nay?

A very relavent song, especially since the recent school shooting. This was one weird song that brought to life the idea of gun control and Satan. Annie is a symbol of evil, killing John Lennon, black children, Reagan. Prince is so skurred he has to hide in taxi cabs. I dig the tune for it's unique strangeness, even though you have no idea what the fuck he is saying.

We need more tunes like this.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Love it. As far as I know, this is the first 'weird' Prince song... and the weird ones are usually my favourites. music

Good point! But I'm talking about sonically weird. I was internally debating whether or not Gotta Stop (Messin' About) was the first 'weird' song, and I forgot about Sister. But I (personally) feel that while Sister and Gotta Stop have fairly familiar rock/new wave roots, Annie Christian is just a freak of nature...

If we're talking weird you can go back further than Gotta Stop. Shit, you could start a website, never mind a thread on Prince / Weird... Fonky too. wink I'll tell what was sonically weird. ATTWIAD after '99 and PRain.

Annie Christian Yea or Nay? Well. Yea, keep it. Play it much? Nay.

I like it. The melody sounds oddly disjointed, giving a feeling of unease and tension throughout, and Prince sounds desolate and angry at the same time, as if he's mourning and venting his own alienation in a world he can't understand. Lines like "...I'll live my life in taxi cabs' are the kind of interesting, non-obvious lyrics I really miss from him.

The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Big ole nay. While I appreciate the weirdness of it, it's just too musically challenged to make way into any of my playlists.

When are you in any kind of mood to actually listen to Annie Christian?

And what kind of an immature notion is identifying the evils of the world to "Annie Christian"? I mean "until you're crusified"? Crusified like Jesus? I thought He was supposed to die for our sins? Is it a plea for the death penalty for John Hinckley Jr.? What the hell kind of good does that do for us?
