I think Donna Grantis sounds like she's been listening to Madhouse, and a whole lot of Jimi plus some generic blues rock. If you check out some of her other videoes, there's a bunch of guitar humping and blues clichés. But she's got decent technique and attitude. I just hope Prince will teach her a bit about "less is more". Cause she's all over the place without being technical enough to really make it sound impressive. I enjoyed the teaser though. This new Prince era sounds promising to me.

I think John Blackwell got replaced by Hannah because he's going to be playing solely for Andy in the immediate future. Also getting the feeling that Andy won't be in the new line-up so she can focus on Superconductor.

Yeah the studio version seems in the same vein as Fury vs the live version. I dig the vocals though and can't wait to hear the rest. Too hard to tell from the sample where that track is going to go. It will probably be rerecorded half a dozen times w/ a different title by the time the album ever sees the light of day

Stack this against RNR Affair & it's like two totally different artists, wait where have i heard that before...

Yeah the studio version sounds a bit weaker, but that's pretty usual right we've been here before.

Again though RNR is the single, this is, well we don't know yet, but even the snippet is better than RNR. Oh Prince, you so screwy!

In the Dr FB website there is a short clip of the studio version of the song and the lyrics.

Both versions sound GREAT!!!

the rehearsal did sound more like the chaos and disorder album vibe, but the studio snippet

sounded, to me at least, more along the lines of rock n roll love affair. it had that bouncy,

almost poppy country beat to it, just with some added guitar. but it was too short to tell from

that short snippet, the song could really go either way.

i guess it won't be long until we hear the full studio version. i'm hoping for a january 2013

release with a full album following in march or april.

It might be a wishful creative interpretation on my part, but I see a butterfly.

The very sexy suggestive lips are the butterfly wings and the golden thingy in the middle the butterfly body. And the strings are the feelers. Allthough there are more strings than a butterfly has feelers.......

I had not recognized Andy her pic, but I agree that it doesn't do justice to her good looks.

I think the guitar is nice, but with a little adjustment here and there, it will look fantastic.

I really spend to much time in the graph design of his guitar. Should have been busy with cleaning, decorating and fixing my own house. To much org as avoidance of my own tasks.

After listening again to the snippet of the new song it occurred to me that it sounds like Prince is singing:

I have checked out both the live rehearsal and studio snippet versions of ScrewDriver and I really like the sound of both! I am extremely excited for new PRINCE music in 2013!!

I'm afraid that there is a danger of the studio version being a bit too "watered down" for that sort of track. The riff is simple, the melody is simple, so what's left if the song is produced in a modern pop song way (lower the guitars in the mix, make the beat sound tight and make the vocals as clear sounding as possible)? Not much, I'm afraid.

If he recorded it with that rehearsal band in one take, live in the studio, with the guitars, bass and drums loud in the mix and his vocals buried somewhere in there, there would be so much sonic space for each instrument, it would be pumpin', sort of like the early Van Halen stuff, which just powered on, somehow.

I can understand that the times have changed and that it would be suicide to record something the way The Undertaker was done (although we love it, of course), but all I'm saying is that a song like this, with the strength lying in the power and delivery, needs a powerful, dirty version on-record. Not a watered down, radio-friendly RnR Affair style version, but a sheer, straight-forward rock version. The thing is, that would probably be even more "accessible" to most listeners, because, let's be honest, stone cold rock and roll with loud guitars is something people will always "get", whereas I'm not so sure about the mellow rock sound I gathered from the short studio version.

And it somehow casts a shadow on the sensible examples of the taming of deconstructive criticism, too. There are times why people need to be reminded that Prince doesn't really "owe" us anything (apart from the odd dollar and t-shirt) and that he still only human. But all those sensible, cool and calm efforts are made to look ridiculous by posters such as KCOOL and their aggressive, almost infantile "protective instinct".

It's difficult to make a judgement on this since it's such a short sample but what I hear makes me very optimistic for 2013. I agree with what some other people have said, in that its vey reminiscent of the Chaos And Disorder sound. It sounds quite similar to I Like It There and if you remember that rehearsal jam that Hannah Ford shared, this Screwdriver song seems to have been recorded during the same session.
