Prince and "The Walking Dead"

http://www.cnn.com/2012/1...=obnetwork

This is an article about the hit show, "The Walking Dead" and one of the writers mentions Prince:

CNN: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your Twitter (account) said you were writing the final episode of season three while listening to Prince.

Mazzara: That is true. I got into a Prince groove. I was listening to a lot of Prince. What's great about Prince is -- first of all, he's a musical genius. But he plays so many different types of music: R&B and funk, and I have some stuff where he's playing jazz. Listening to Prince is listening to a lot of different types of eclectic music.

CNN: I love the idea that you can get into the head space of writing a very dark episode, and something like "Let's Go Crazy" is on in the background at some point.

Mazzara: Maybe. I don't know if it was ever officially released, but he has a song called "The Undertaker" that's really great to write to.

Thank you for posting this! It really made my day to hear that one of the writers for the Walking Dead, which is currently my favorite show, listens to Prince and even gets inspired and sets the mood for writing y his music!
The thing about Mazzara's comments about Prince is the fact that he "gets it". He expressed so much in a simplistic way what many of us long time fans feel about Prince and his music....there are so many musical styles that a listener can appreciate. His statement is the ultimate positive testimonial to one of music's greatest modern artists. There is no negativity, no selfish expectations, no comparison to past Prince music, no ill will towards him. There was only sincere appreciation for the art, creativity, craftsmanship and plethora of styles in the music by Prince.
That "IS WHY" I love and appreciate Prince and his music to this day. From "For You" to "Rock and Roll Love Affair", I have enjoyed and experienced a musical adventure from an artist who is still light years ahead of his time. Pop, funk, rock, R&B, soul, Dance, Electronic, Country, Classical, Latin etc., are all musical flavors Prince sprinkles in his music but makes it new and all his own. I am thankful for the music he shares with us. I am thankful for 34 plus years of fantastic work! Prince's most recent song "Rock and Roll Love Affair" is a wonderful pop/rock song that, for me, has so much heart. I still stand in awe of Prince.

Great post!

I found this youtube clip of high school students performing, The Undertaker. They jump into the lyrics around 1:22. They are old school

Meant to post this awhile back but didn't want to go through the contortions of getting it from Google news to the org via iPhone/iPad.

I think that The Undertaker might have been a download from one of Prince's music clubs. Because I had it and I put it on a disk. I've never really sought out any bootlegs. It was around 2000 or so when I remember last having it.

It was fantastic. I could hardly stop playing it.. Then it disappeared.

imo it was legendary, deep, dark, slamming, raw, Funk headbang fro
