A forgotten classic? Add to the list..

There are incredible Prince songs that for one reason or another are forgotten because they were eclipsed or just are amazing in their own right but everyone only remembers the songs on the radio...

Give me your current TOP FIVE FORGOTTEN CLASSICS...

1) When Will We Be Paid?
2) I Would Die 4 U
3) Here
4) Space (Universal Love Remix)
5) Forever In My Life

What are your Top 5?
“Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

1) is not a Prince song afaik, it's a traditional covered by Prince (and I dislike it a lot),.

2), 4), 5) are classics

3) is good

I couldn't give you 5 Prince songs..

5 albums no problem, but to pick 5 songs.. impossible..

wink

er

Emancipation is full of 'em!
The Holy River
Curious Child
And from the later albums:
The Marrying Kind
If I Was the Man in Ur Life
The Word
We could go on & on, the man wrote so many good songs, it's easy to overlook some real beauties. But I Would Die 4 U was a hit, so I don't think that one counts!

1. America/Paisley Park/She's Always In My Hair/Condition Of The Heart

2. Ballad Of Dorothy Parker/Housequake/Hot Thing/Forever In My Life/Strange Relationship

3. Party Up/Head/When You Were Mine

4. Let's Work/Sexuality/Private Joy

5. Anna Stesia/Glam Slam/I Wish U Heaven

6. All My Dreams/Girls & Boys/Under The Cherry Moon / Old Friends 4 Sale/Power Fantastic

7. DMSR/All The Critics Love U In New York/Extralovable/Lady Cab Driver/Purple Music

8. Crazy You/Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad ?

9. Bob George/Rock Hard In A Funky Place/When 2 R In Love

10. My Computer/The Love We Make/Sleep Around/Freaks On This Side

All these songs to me are massive hits in the purple universe. They are all top shelf. I wish they all had music videos, some do some don't. Many of these would have had a bigger presence had they had official music videos.

"Sign "O" The Times" had SO MANY hits on it that weren't because they weren't chosen to be singles/videos. As much as I love "If I Was Your Girlfriend" and "Sign "O" The Times" as songs and singles, I wonder if he chose to release them as singles because he knew they were really good, but he also knew they were really daring and a very clean break. It may have been an excercise in utter complete independence from the Revolution and it was a turning point for Prince. What I've come to realize is as a fan and lover of the whole trip, you gotta just be grateful for everything Prince has created that you dig. You may not like everything, but he has contributed so much at this point. I'm just happy I've gotten the chance to see him play many of these songs. I hope to see him perform more rarities/gems in the near future. That new album will be cool to get into this winter too. I need some new funk to keep me warm.

Hi Old Friends,

I'm still trying to figure out if "Paisley Park" was filmed the same day as the "America" video during that French show. If not, has "Paisley Park" ever been filmed being performed ? I have only seen a very grainy balcony cam of it performed during a rehearsal in Minneapolis from maybe 1986. I am craving more "Around The World In A Day" era footage. I wish there was a tour based around just that album. I would have bought everything at the merch stand. Even posters from that period are scarce. Definitely my favorite period visually.

Maybe because Prince didn't intend to release any singles or videos from this period....

Here are my five at the moment that imo deserve more respect -

Come On

When Will We Be Paid?

The Love We Make

Colonised Mind (borrowed riff or not)

CardamomTown

Under The Cherry Moon certainly is exquisite. Also Venus de Milo, Do U Lie and New Position.

I'd like to add Lovesexy, Something In The Water, Just As Long As We're Together, Automatic, Vicky Waiting, Willing and Able, My Love Is Forever and There Is Lonely.

Man, I love going back listening to those forgotten old gems ...

Forgotten classics, interesting, did they have to be considered "classic" at one point or is it just songs that I think are great but others overlook? I'm gonna go with the former:

1. Pop Life -- great bass, was a minor hit

2. 7 -- great melody & lyrics

3. Sexuality -- it's where the trademark scream/yelp first sppeared

4. Come -- not sure if this was every considered "classic" but it's certainly epic

5. Condition of the Heart -- another one that might never have been called "classic" but it always seemed like one to me. The first time I heard I thought wow, this is fantastic, this sounds like a classic, is it cover of an old song, why isn't this a huge hit

i can't be arsed to think of 5 but i'll throw "when we're dancing close and slow" out there. it's got a touch of weirdness about it i can't put my finger on. it's intimate, yet strangely unsettling at the same time. absolute prince classic in my opinion.

i just listened to it again. i reckon he could have even squeezed another verse in at the end where it fades out, but minor quibbles.

some good uns from you too, especially delirious, and as for lovesexy......well what can one say about that track. every time you listen to it there's a new twist to it, off the wall genius! wink

This list as with everything will obviously be highly subjective based on personal opinion and preference but here are some contributions...

The 3 singles that should have promoted Emancipation in "Sleep Around" / 'Get Yo Groove On" & "Sex in the Summer"

"Beautiful Strange"

"Sexual Suicide"

"Hide the Bone"

"The Morning Papers"

"Private Joy"
