Question About the Unreleased "1999" Album

Anyone know if 1999 (the album) was ever sequenced to include the version of the title track where Prince, Dez, Jill and Lisa sing the verses in harmony?

Was the version of the song 1999 that has the Latin Section just a demo or was this edited from the released version?

Moonbeam Levels was cut from the album in favor of Free; assuming Moonbeam segued from 1999, where was Little Red Corvette placed?

Did the alternative versions of DMSR and Something in the Water make it to final sequencing?

Thanks all!

From what I can hear, it does sound like Moonbeam Levels segues from 1999. The rest is pure speculation.

hmmm very interesting

So,"Moonbeam Levels" was actually placed on an early configuration of the album? Right after the song "1999"?

No in the Matt Thorne book, twice it was mentioned that the 1982 version had some sort of Latin break, kind of a Sheila E. type vibe. I'll look up the exact quote tonight and report back...

Does anyone have info about the early configurations of the 1999 album? What songs were removed/replaced?

Its funny U made this thread! I was just thinking about this yesterday about when Prince said he turned 1999(which I've been listening to a lot lately & is from my favorite Prince album) into three parts instead of the harmony all throughout the song. It was brilliant of him. It gave Lisa & Dez visibility(Poor BrownMark was always left out of everything vocal wise giggle ) This track is arguably Prince's best lead single of his career...

You know fms, i'm now wondering if the "Latin" section in The New Master is literally from the original 1982 recording just with extra instrumentation added on top. From the book:

"According to HM Buff, the engineer who was later given access to the original tapes of "1999", the song initially contained a Latin section similar to the one in the later reworking that was edited from the original recording."

BTW this is only mentioned once in the Thorne book -- not sure where i saw the other reference
