I would agree with this if he paid his bills but there are countless examples of Prince never paying his bills until he is sued. Many of these by small independent companies that are depending on his $ not too mention when he doesn't pay his taxes those are the residents and students of Chanhassen that he is screwing over.

On top of that as mentioned he basically stole $77 from almost everyone here.

So everyone else is entitled to call foul but Prince should be above it all and let it ride?

No. P sues.

And we should sue.

Prince should care more about the "soft values" in life.

this is from my/ a european's point of view, I suppose in the US it is okay to care a lot for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

still, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is not the most important in life if you ask me. wink

I don't think it's fair to say, "...I suppose in the US it is okay to care a lot for $$$." I'm from the US and I agree with you 100% - there are so MANY more important things in life than money. But it seems true that a lot of people (where ever they live) have lost that knowledge. It's like their life has a void of love so they fill it in with money or greed or whatever dulls the pain. Man - somebody needs to give those people a hug and help them find what they're missing. wink It's these people (not saying Prince is in this category) that really seem to be in the news and "represent" the US so we're stereotyped as all being greedy don't-care-about-no-one-but-ourselves people to the rest of the world.

So your statement "$$$$ is not the most imporant thing in life" is absolutely correct! In this case I believe Prince was fighting more for the principle of the thing than the actual money. People probably think he has so much money he won't miss this ($77 equivalent). I think he's smarter than that. I just wish he would do a better job of getting his product out to market than spending his time policing YouTube or whatever. For example, if he put out a DVD from the Welcome 2 Chicago concert or put together another live CD set he could beat the bootleg crowd from exploiting his work. I don't buy them but at the same time I wish I could because I was there and want to take home that experience.

It's highly unlikely that Prince is sitting at his kitchen table each week and balancing his checkbook. He has an accounting firm that handles this stuff and lawyers that handle all the court cases. If the case was vacated, then the debt collector had no right to take a dime from him. I think his lawyers should also so them for violating the Fair Debt Collections Act. Taking money from someone's bank account on a court case they lost seems to be a big violation.

So what--Prince is a super star worth millions. Debt collectors are constantly overstepping boundries and sidestepping the law. They should be sued each and every time they are in violation of the law.

No Prince shouldn't just let it ride. But he should take note of how it feels to have someone take something from you. At least in his case, he has enough resources to get his money back. Some folks (including those who paid $77 for nothing), haven't been so fortunate.

This isn't a small amount at all, not cents, this is more than 100000$, fortuneately he is still aware of the value of money; he's got to claim for it back!

Prince is free to give to whomever he wants to, to whatever fundraisers and so on, and he's free not to give as well!

That's a little extreme aint it? His last album "20TEN" came out in, well, 2010. That's only 2 years ago. He may not release albums as often as he once did but a 2 yr gap is hardly not making records anymore!!! smile

Prince just filed the most awesome lawsuit against a collection agency -- 'cause, for a change, he's going after them to get back more than $100,000 the agency allegedly jacked from his bank account.

According to the suit ... Capital Asset Protection made two withdrawls from Prince's bank accounts back in June in the amount of $105,949.14 and $10,278.94.

CAP was collecting the money for a lawsuit Prince previously lost over a music production contract.

But in the new documents, filed Thursday in L.A. County Superior Court, Prince says a judge vacated that original judgement in October, 2011 ... thereby erasing his debt to the production company.

So, according to the suit, CAP collected on a debt that didn't exist. Oops.

Prince is suing to get back his $116,228.12 ... plus interest.

Baby, he's a star.

Good photo, for those who continually bang on about how he is ageless!1

If he paid his bills like the rest of us - without necessitating a court case - then maybe he wouldn't have debt collectors chasing him and taking his money. We all know his track record.

And yes, I would like my stupid tshirt that I paid for. That is all.

And can people shut up about the bloody tshirt! I understand the principle but its over 3 years ago, let it drop! $77 at the time was £40 in the UK, for that I got 3 Prince albums, about the same as the price in the shop, minus the covers tho, not that bad really, bit pricey, bit piss taking but I'm not THAT arsed.

Mind you I did get my t-shirt and I've never worn it.

I'll sell it to you if you want smile

Are you seriously justifying Prince not delivering on his membership term with fans with the fact that unreleased songs have been leaked to said fans? If so, you should take note that the fans didn't release those songs; they just downloaded them (or purchased them back in the day). Also, the same fans who acquired those unreleased songs would gladly pay for official versions of those songs even today. Thus, while I agree that Prince should feel some angst toward not having control over when those songs were released, no real money has been taken out of his pocket. The same fans that are diehard enough to know that the bootlegs exist and scour the internet trying to find them are the same fans that are diehard enough to buy the official version of those songs in every medium available. Wow, I love Prince too, but you are really defending him to a fault. lol

You said, "he should take note of how it feels to have someone take something from you" and I mentioned the unreleased tracks because as discussed on here they were taken by people around Prince at various times. As for the one who actually took the tracks, if they aren't Prince fans then what are they? Most of them haunt/haunted every fan site and fanzine that existed. they get talked about in hushed whispers and code because they may still have some tracks to give us. So yeah I think we've all become accquainted with "having something taken from us". Fans, bootleggers and rock stars alike.

The $77 line at the start was tongue in cheek but some orgers love playing the perpetual victim of Prince. I knew one of y'all would equate his loss of cash to your own.

And therein lies my issue with your post. Your tone seems to indicate that you think the money taken from Prince is more important than the money his fans lost through the Lotusflow3r site. That's just simply not true. It has nothing to do with "playing the perpetual victim." It's just bad business. Whether it's $1, $77 or $116K, wrong is wrong. Personally, I didn't even spend the $77. I just found it interesting that you took that position on the matter.

Everytime a concert is announced I read about hotel booking, airfares, long drives over 2 hours, VIP circle tickets for multiple nights, tickets for multiple aftershows et al. So an orger crying over $77.00 whatever the myriad of reasons falls a bit flat for me. If it was a bank breaker then they shouldn't have spent it in the first place regardless of what they thought they'd get for it. But as I said I brought it up as a joke. Some took it that way and you didn't.

thanks for calling me a liberal (if that is what you did):

true, I am liberal - anti-conservative.

and to me $ is far from priority #1.

When I wrote Prince seems to be greedy, it was "in general", not particular related to this case.

In a lot of interviews Prince has spoken about how proud he is of earning a lot of $$$, kind of disappointing and a bit boring if you ask me.

the lawsuits against fansites etc. I am sure others could name more examples of Prince being "a material guy".

lucky as I am I never signed to that crap site LotusFailure.com.

$77.00 and getting nothing I don't blame people being disappointed about that.
