Prince V's Prince...a Legacy Tarnished

Prince is always beating his chest about his legacy and his right to control all aspects of his music, image and performances. All of these things are in complete contradiction to his other side which demands exposure, attention and adulation. Why does such a superb live artist choose to with-hold potential releases of live concerts, why does this amazing artist insist on having every unauthorised trace of himself erased from existence online and alienate the very fans who supply the adulation he seeks? Surely his legacy would be better served by allowing the unknowing population to experience a brief glimpse in to his extraordinary catalogue of concerts and recordings both audio and visual? I feel his control has, and continues to work against the very foundation of what he is trying to achieve. Just as the great George Costanza once declared ...." a George divided against itself...Cannot stand!"

None of know Prince, so none of us know the reason why and it's silly to speculate.

The guy's put out an album a year for just about 30 years, and it's still not enough?

You know what's the best representation of Prince in concert? Actually seeing Prince in concert.

Why isn't there more official live material of Stevie Wonder?

Is he ruining his legacy by not releasing live material from his classic period?

Who cares?

Prince is a great artist and him choosing to release live material, allow his videos on youtube isn't gonna change that.

It won't change if he chooses not to embrace those mediums.

Youtube isn't the only game in town, and if I wanted to watch Prince videos on line, I can.

If a kid wants to find Prince videos online, he can. It's not hard to find at all.

JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I agree with a lot of what you have to say. I would not say his legacy is tarnished, just not capitalized on as much/well as it could be.

In many ways, Prince marginalizes himself. Does he realize this?

well whether prince likes it or not, his fans have preserved his legacy just fine .. u want a copy of his live concerts, go tape it yourself .. u want remasters .. plenty of fans have remastered his work themselves ... is it really neccessary for prince to do it all .. clearly it would involve listening to quite a few thousand recordings to rummage thru and find what he may feel really represents his vision .. probably he would have to stop releasing crappy albums for 2 or three years just to put a dent in all the work he would have to put into picking .. then he will second guess himself and take out his good stuff and replace it with what he considers to have more comercial appeal .. which is what happened with crystal ball .. i am sure he wants only a recent live recording .. which is the reason we got that rubbish one night alone set instead of that beauty of a live revolution show that came out last year .. so its gonna have to be one of his horrible recent greatest hits sets .. hey maybe even prince doesn't want to hear or see shelby anymore in HD sound and picture .. prince is obviously more concerned with his pseudo spirituality than making money ... this is because he already has plenty of money .. he literally does not care about his past .. he just knows if he didn't play the hits people wouldn't come to his gigs .. he obviously doesn't like his outtakes .. otherwise they would have made the record by now .. yes it would be nice to have the outtakes in high quality .. but realistically there are only about 20 or 30 poor quality outtakes that prince fans would truly jizz to have .. i mean does anyone really need a "journy to the center of your heart" upgrade .. or a thousand hugs and kisses .. or even 15 different remixes of cream .. no .. most of it is kinda only appealing because it is in poor quality and unreleased .. otherwise .. unless you really love prince singing the same fucking ballad over and over with different less coherant lyrics each time .. u really don't need anymore prince

prince legacy will never be tarnished .. real prince fans will always respect his highpoints and accept the pathetic drivel he has become .. and casual fans will always remember he had hits and then turned into even more of a freak and disappeared .. there is nothing anyone can do to change that .. including prince apparantly .. if so .. maybe one of his last 20 records would not make his fans cringe

all that said .. for the love of GOD prince PLEASE stop wearing pajamas onstage .. to me this is the biggest sign that prince is completely out of touch and off his rocker with absolutely no hope of recovery .. pjs .. since 2010 at least he has been wearing the same fuckin pjs except with a different picture on the front .. prince pjs make that horrid jacket he wore on the view seem oh so neccessary ... please prince .. i don't care about live disks or remasters or outakes .. just stop with the pj's .. i think if prince stops wearing pj's and lets his hair grow .. he just might have a chance at making a good record .. it just may be his only chance at a comeback

oh please, he's about making as much $ as he can as quick as he can. There is no care taken over his art, his live shows are now becoming hit or miss and his career has been blighted by piss poor decision making driven by a huge ego and an overly flattering view of himself in his own eyes.

Have you listenend to the mix of the 3121 album - it's a disgrace!.

Stop being an apologist for him.

Prince could be doing a lot more to earn that quick (and slow) money. I don't see any Prince songs in Burger King commericals.
