Am I missing something here? I don't see how the performance was bad at all. The song isn't a favorite of mine, but to me P was on point as usual. shrug Sure I would love something more "evolving" from him, but damn, I'll take this cheesy shit rather than him doing a song with Lil' Wayne or collaborating with The Dream or Swizz Beats for a shitty song.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It was a good performance although it seemed a little rushed. The crowd (those present and accounted for) seemed quite happy as is consistent with Prince's live performances.

While Rock N Roll Love Affair is not one of his greatest tunes, its presents a different sound with a different vibe and is still very good and better than most anything out, poppular today. The lyrics are simplistic but if the words are coming from his (or someone else's) heart, it is what it is...why would anyone have an issue with that?

For the naysayers......bring back the love, enjoy the ride, you'll find life much better that way.

I get a kick out of seeing Prince perform live.

The Prince of yesteryear would've considered a pedestrian song like "RNR Affair" unworthy as a b-side. He's coasting, devoid of any creative spark.

Possibly, perhaps not; how would you know, really? Years ago he may have played, arranged, sang or played it differently, but its really not so far from other songs from yesteryear already mentioned in this thread.

He's coasting, devoid of any creative spark.

I'm not convinced...the So Dark rendition shared last week was nicely done.

Why don't y'all just make funeral arrangements for Prince's career. I swear for a lot of y'all, it would have been better if he just stayed out of the public eye all year long instead of the summer.

Good performance. Song is okay, nothing ground breaking.

Why is anybody seriously complaining about it? They really need to check their attitudes at the door.

Wow some people around here love to over analyze.

R&R is a poppy, upbeat single which is harmless and I thought the performance was solid. Yes not ground breaking but what is anymore. Prince was a pioneer for decades and released some of the greatest singles, albums and live performances of all time, so who gives a shit now at his age as long as he is still writing, performing and is free. Would people be happier if he was a total recluse and hid in Paisley Park and never performed or released music to the masses again ? He is better live now than ever and he looks happy and relaxed. So if Andy is part of the reason then I am all for supporting her, plus People Pleaser is damn funky.

As Skywalker said we have been through the weird and wonderful Prince of the 90's and some of that stuff was down right embarrassing. Prince has a worldwide fan base and he is content with that. He is not out to compete against Taylor Swift and Ne-Yo and nor do I want him to.

So for me I am happy he has a new single, video, tv performances etc. The guy is a musical legend and nothing he does moving forward will ever change that.

Some Great Points, but Prince better live now than EVER??? Really??? So, if you went to a show and Shelby shouts "Put Your Hands Up" for half an hour, and Andy sings lead on 5 songs, and multiple covers are performed, you would rather watch that then the SOTT Film? Really?

You are right about RNR affair..not a bad song, but if 2012 Prince Live is his best, I don't know what you are watching.

Great performance... I like him singing in his lower register live.

"Dance Electric" was off the hook... Wai 'til you see the full version of that. P ripped it on guitar, smaked his mic stand down, and was high energy.

Funny that this site is primarily dominated by so much criticism.

Just to balance it out a bit...

PRINCE: You look marvelous. Love the Yellow pants, the jacket, the hair. You look healthy, and sound great.

BAND: Who is the new keyboard player and guitar player? Totally unfamiliar to me.

I beleive I only saw one keyboard player, and it wasn't Morris, Renato, nor Cassandra.

DANCE. Dance Electric.

The performance was not bad, Im not sure what people are expecting??....I am not digging the baggy jackets he has been wearing...or the hair/glasses, but he changes his look all the time..next time we see him it'll be something else...so no big deal. RNR is a nice little song and I do like it better live (like many of his songs)compared to the studio. Only criticism is that the chorus (if u can call it that--"rock rock love affair") comes in too late--like after the 4th verse...would be better maybe if he had it throughout out the song. Not sure why folks are hating on the live horns in the performance...HORNS live are always good with P! And yes I want to see the rest of the performance of Dance Electric...that was sounding tight!

Peace

Right. Snipers, load your weapons.

That has to be one of the worst 'performances' I've seen or heard from him. Apart from the fact that Arse & arse affair isn't worth the 2 minutes he prolly took to write it, he's surrounded himself with muppets. If that band was on a pub stage I'd prolly walk out. Glad people had a good time and all that but, well...

I was hoping they might've worked on some choreography. AA to stage front, P kicks her off stage. Exit stage left, that type of thing. She's a real star alright. The kind of 'chocolate star' that sits between the butt cheeks.

On a more serious note. I don't know if he was blaming the sound or anything on R&R but he's sounding a cats fart away from singing off key to me, not in a good way either and I'm being generous. Sounds like he's either bored, or he's playing it down to make AA sound better?

Awful. Rain is wet, sugar is sweet, Andys shite leave her in the street.

Damn.... but this just about summarizes it.

Agreed. That was just dull and boring, which is like the worst thing you can say about a Prince performance. When the coolest thing I can think of to like is the trippy-dippy set and some of the lighting, we've got a problem here. The mix was very bad and the only thing I could hear driving the song was a very flaccid and stale keyboard riff that was way too loud. No great shakes with this performance at all. Even "Laydown" on George Lopez, regardless of what you think of the song, had some crackle and spark to it.

This was just weak.

edit:

Damn. The 1 minute we got of Dance Electric had more juice in it than the entirety of R&RLA. That's what he should have played. Is there a full version anywhere?

When your life is so devoid of substance that you can only follow a musician that you don't even appreciate any longer, who has the problem? The musician or you?

I've never been at a Prince concert or tv taping where the crowd was booing the performance and screaming out, "WTF are you wearing?"

Those who feel he's lost his spark, energy, inspiration, creativity et al. should then wonder why they still follow him? Please don't run that "the old material keeps me around" line it's a cop out for why you can't find music that you enjoy or makes you feel positive thoughts instead of negative ones.

Prince is clearly not relying on repeating the 80's to get/keep/grow a fanbase. He's moved on. Why haven't you?

The majority still enjoy Prince's work and appreciate that he's still into giving us music. We aren't focused on the fact that he wore an outfit 3 times or what style his hair is in.

I been saying that on here ever since MJ passed. But there not going to listen 2 u. When people are miserable in their own lives they are going to try to pull everyone else down with them. So its just a waste of typing. A lot of peeps on here have sad miserable lives & are very unhappy with themselves. That is why they constantly find reasons month after month year after year putting Prince down every chance they get......

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Well, let's see. A few things. how would I know if I didn;t care for something if I didn't, you know, fucking watch it first? "The Dance Electric" was really good, I thought, "R&RLA" pretty bad. See, here's we do on message boards: we watch the subject perform and then offer our take on it. I'm an Al Pacino fan, for instance, so I tend to watch his movies when I can. Is it OK if I didn't like "Carlito's Way" or 'Sea of Love" very much but still liked "Heat" and "Any Given Sunday" or should I just stop following his films because I didn't care for a few of them?

I also follow the Philadelphia Phillies and they didn't do so well this year so I guess I should just stop watching games. There was this one restaruant I ate at several times and on occasion, I enjoyed some entrees better than other ones. Some I didn't like at all, but I know they usually serve good food so I go back and give it another try. There are some HBO series I watch and generally they're pretty good. Some not so much. When I don't like one, or a particular episode of one, I say so, but usually come back because they tend to be good for the most part. I enjoy Stephen King books a lot but some of them I thought were terrible. I'll still usually give his work a read though because he's a good writer.

My wife made me mad one time and disappointed me with some thigns she said and did, but I know that she's a quality person overall and I love her so I didn't just go "fuck this" and leave her.

Is everything a zero sum equation where if Stephen King writes a few shitty books or Martin Scorcese makes a bad movie I shouldn't check out thier work or talk about it in any way?

Are you starting to see how this works or does everyone who didn't like the show the other night have some sort of personal problem?

Wait....what did I do? Here I thought I just didn't care much for the R&RLA performance and it turned out that instead I was just miserable in my own life the whole entire time. I'm still reeling from the epiphany and the ramifications it suggests.

I really liked the "Dance Electric" part though, so maybe I'm only half miserable? Or was less miserable as the night drew later? Or maybe only miserable with half my life? I dunno. Maybe I just liked one song and not the other but clearly that's impossible.

Nothing's ever that simple in Princeville.
